“Fabulous cross country train ride”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

We took the Kyle line train ride from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh. You can join at Inverness. The trip was part of our Shearings coach trip and was the highlight of the trip. We travelled on a Thursday joining the train at approx 11.30 for the just short of 2 hour journey. The downside is that it's not a steam or old fashioned diesel but a normal 2 carriage Scotrail train. However the excellent views definitely make up for this. You go through Garve neatly crossing the main road and from then on you cross through the valleys alongside small and large forests and ponds, tarns and finally lochs. We sat on the left hand side of the carriage but I would recommend choosing the right hand side if possible as you get the better loch side views. There is a buffet trolley and toilets and the staff were very friendly. Every bit of the journey was enchanting and I would love to do the return trip. At the end you finish up at the Kyle station at the end of the pier and can visit the museum, browse the gift shop or just wander around the historic building. There is a Friends of the Kyle line you can join, donate to or obtain a certificate to celebrate your journey completion. I would definitely recommend this exceptionally scenic trip.

“Really scenic trip well worth doing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

My husband and myself did the Kyle of Lochalsh trip on 10th August. Like previous reviews it is well worth doing, the Scenery is spectacular . I would like to Highlight Karen who was on the Buffet Trolley, she was exceptional. She made myself and my Husband so welcome letting us on the Train early on what was not a very nice day, and looked after us so so well. She was fantastic. She is a real Asset to Scotrail.

“Great Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

Great scenery and a lovely day out from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh.

If you can, you should book seats in advance and from Dingwall to Kyle, if ask for the right hand side of the carriage facing forward.

The train is only two carriages but has toilets and a buffet trolley service - very helpful and friendly staff.

“Wonderful train journey!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

I joined the train at Dingwall to make the journey to Kyle of Lochalsh on July 22nd. Perfect weather and this 2 hour journey was just amazing. The scenery was beautiful in the sunshine especially when you are approaching the west coast. Spectacular views from the train and I enjoyed every minute of the journey. Spent a few hours in Kyle of Lochalsh then got the train back to Dingwall, sat in almost the same seat so saw the "other side" of the scenery too. Well worth the £23.40.
