I won the trip through "Visit Scotland" and travelled on the line on Easter Monday - 1st April 2013. The views are breathtaking! All along the line, which meanders along at a steady pace, the views just improve. Mountains capped with snow, lots of deer herds, sheep galore! The day I travelled was bright with sunshine which added to the picturesqueness of the area. I just love Wester Ross, but I had never seen it from the train, it is more beautiful than I thought! Once the train gets to Strathcarron and the sea, well, it is just stunning!!! Otters swimming in the sea loch, herons, brids of prey, the small islands the blueness of the sky and sea.... so much to see! I was in raptures!! I cannot rate the trip highly enough!

Great trip with ever-changing scenery. Snow capped mountains, waterfalls, herons and deer, and Loch Carron views; oh! and a really helpful attendant.

One of my most memorable train journeys. Truly beautiful scenery, enhanced by the stunning rainbows produced by Scotland's notoriously fickle weather. As it was November the train was almost completely empty which added to the enjoyment of the experience.

The scenery on this line is breathtaking! Train slows down around shore at Loch Carron enabling plenty opportunities for photographs.

Had long wanted to do this. It was a trip through two hours of wilderness in the heart of Scotland. The return journey was at 06:21 from Kyle and it had been snowing. I enjoyed this journey on a fairly empty train (until Dingwall) witha coffee from the conductor through a winter wonderland seeing stags and deer and the scottish countryside in all its glory. I have toured by train in Canada and Switzerland and believe me this was up there with them but this cost a fraction at £19.00 return to Edinburgh with and over 55 club ticket. If you like railways and scenery this is a must do.
