“Wonderful in every way!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

My boyfriend and I showed up to Fort William on an autumny evening in October and were superlatively lucky to find last minute accomodation in Achintee Farm. There were no private rooms left, but the owners were sporting enough to offer us sole use of the 5-bed dorm for a marginally higher price (yet still lower than the SYHA standard rate). This dorm has its own very well equipped and spacious kitchen, shower room and separate lavatory, and would be a fun place to stay with a group of friends. Rooms are basic as you expect from a hostel of this kind, but extremely clean. The owner gave us splendid and encouraging advice on climbing the mountain and offered the loan of a laminated map/guide. Achintee is right under Ben Nevis, so you can start your walk right out of the front door. (Weather very wild up there. Wear proper clothing!). After we arrived back at Achintee, exhausted, cold, saturated and very, very pleased with our achievement, we laid our wet gear in the very useful drying room in the basement (the next day when I went to collect it I found that a kind anonymous person had stuffed our soaked walking boots with newspaper and hung them to dry all the better.... thank you, whoever you were!). There was also space in the drying room to dry our tent, which had got very wet the night before our arrival at Achintee. For our second night at Achintee we were moved to a private twin room, which shared a very large kitchen, dining and sitting area with a second twin room. Here we met a friendly German couple who mentioned that it was their 17th stay at Achintee since they enjoyed staying there so much. On our final morning my boyfriend really couldn't find his mobile, and the owner couldn't have been more understanding that we were an hour late checking out because of it (the phone eventually turned up down the back of the sofa). We paid £20pppn for sole use of the 5-bed dorm (usually £17) and £19pppn for the private twin room. My overall impression is that you couldn't find a nicer place to stay if you want to climb Ben Nevis.

Have visited many places, but this one is one of the best. Very good B&B, a victorian house, and at the foot of the Ben Nevis, so you can start climbing out of your house. There is a cosy inn nearby where you can have dinner with all the other climbers.

I'm sure that Heather & Scot won't find it the slightest bit tedious to be told yet again that the accommodation they provide in the lee of Ben Nevis is superlative. As the final stop of our WHW walk, it came as an enormous pleasure to find that the location, the room, the welcome, the peace & quiet and the breakfast were all of the highest order. And to have such a terrific hostelry, at which to get dinner, so beautifully placed at the end of the drive was a real bonus.

We stayed for one night before climbing Ben Nevis, and picked Achintee for it's location, at the start of the path used by most walkers on the Ben. We chose a room in the guest house (there is also a cottage to rent and a hostel) and found it very comfortable, with nice views over the glen. Scot and Heather are fabulous hosts, they both took time to make sure that we had everything we needed for our stay and for our climb, were very informative about the area, and made us both feel really welcome. Achintee was quite a change from our usual choice of hotel, but the lack of flat-screen tv in our room and very limited access to wifi actually forced us relax and appreciate our surroundings, which are stunning. Breakfast was delicious and set us up well for the climb. Heather and Scot insisted that we came back after the climb to get a hot shower and change of clothes before leaving, when was the last time you heard about service like that at a chain hotel?

My cousin and I stayed at the Achintee Farm Hostel for 2 nights and did not want to leave. We were welcomed in by Scott and Heather, and felt instantly at home. The twin room in the hostel was very comfortable and the shared kitchen and living room were perfect. We climbed Ben Nevis and enjoyed a couple meals at the Ben Nevis in which was right next to the farm house. The hike up the mountain was great and still left us time to get cleaned up and walk into town for dinner. Fort William was a fun place to visit and only a couple miles away, but what we really enjoyed was staying around the Farmhouse. The views were stunning and the landscape afforded some great walks. This was honestly the best hostel I have ever stayed at and I hope to return someday!

I was lucky to find this accommodation on a short notice. I looked up on google and saw the website, rang the accommodation and got a bunkhouse booked. I was there with 3 others to climb Ben Nevis and found it to be perfect for those attempting Britain's highest mountain. The property sits at the foot of the mountain track, and only 5 minutes walk across a river to the Visitors Centre. What I love most about the property is the fact that we didn't have to share the bunkhouse with other guests - which means, own toilet, shower and kitchen for the price of hostel beds! We were in a bunkhouse that has a room with 2 bunk beds and a single bed which sleeps 5. It was clean and the kitchen has everything you need - microwave, fridge, oven, kitchenware, utensils, etc. And some good reading materials too! The owners are very friendly and warm thus made us felt very welcomed. We stayed there for only a night and climbed up to the summit the next day. We were allowed to use the drying room to change although we had checked out from out bunkhouse. That was very kind of the owner. Would without a doubt come back whenever I visit Fort William in the future and would love to try the bed and breakfast the next time.

My wife & I stayed for 2 nights B&B in the farmhouse as part of a highlands tour in early September 2012. Our room (number 2) was upstairs and had a kingsize bed and an en-suite (shower not bath) located in a separate dressing area adojining room - very spacious. Scenic outlook onto the garden with views of the surrounding hills. Free tea & coffee and shortbread provided. Very quiet and relaxing lounge area downstairs with plenty of books and free wi-fi for guest use.

Scot & Heather really are the perfect hosts very friendly and welcoming. Scot provided plenty of local information and advice for that walk up "The Ben". Achintee Farm is located directly on the main tourist path. We wandered up to the halfway point at "Red Burn" before the weather closed in and we decided to call it a day and turn around - still occupied best part of 4.5 hours with aching limbs in evidence the next morning.

Just at the end of the drive is the Ben Nevis Inn which serves excellent food (& drink) after those long hours on the trail.

We both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay - very highly recommended.
