Stayed here one night after walking up Ben Nevis. Room was clean. Room decor was dated. Bed was comfortable. Public areas were cosy and Scottish, nice atmosphere. Evening meal from fixed menu was ok, but service was great. Breakfast was good. Pool area was great nice big pool and everything worked.
We got a great room rate and worked out cheaper than staying in the hostel in an en suit room.
Don't understand the other poor reviews.

We expected a poor experience here following previous reviews and we were pleasantly surprised. We used this hotel as a stop over on our way home from the highlands. The hotel is dated, the furnishings have seen better days, and the hotel is still setup to cater for large coach trips. However, the food was good (especially the breakfast), the bedroom was comfortable and large (we were upgraded as they weren't that busy), the staff were helpful and friendly. Don't expect a modern hotel here, this is an old hotel that is in need of some serious investment, but it does have a kind of character.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room facing the main road. It's quite noisy.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments it is appreciated. You are correct we do have a refurbishment programme scheduled as do the other six Hotels in the Group and as you say it does take a lot of time & money to do this, especially as there are over 700 bedrooms across the Group.

We hope that you will allow us to look after you again some time

I stayed here last week, dreading it after reading such negative reviews on here and was very pleasantly surprised.

Our room, I was staying with my 8 year old daughter, was exceptionally clean and comfortable. There was a small piece of wall covering coming away by the skirting but that's nitpicking! The beds were comfortable, the staff were really friendly and when I reported a problem with my tv, maintenance came within a couple of minutes, installed a signal booster and the situation was immediately improved.

Breakfast was the only meal we ate at the hotel but there was lots of choice and my little girl kept complaining of having eyes bigger than her belly! The staff were helpful and charming towards her, asking how her day had been and what she was doing later, about her life at home and showing an interest.

We also used the swimming pool - such a luxury to have a warm pool practically to ourselves - with a jacuzzi too! The changing rooms were adequate and the shampoo, shower gel and moisturiser was a nice touch - as was the very thoughtful provision of wet cozzy bags!

Much as I'd probably look at staying at the Premier Inn due to cost (I paid £310 for three nights), it was a good stay and I hope you find it is too. Yes, a few quid could be spent here and there but I also understand hotel financing, with my partner being chief engineer of a five star hotel in London, but cut them some slack, it may be scheduled for once the busy period is over?

I stayed one night with a CIE tour. They said all the hotels they use are first class superior. This is a hotel you would stay at with a budget tour group. It was awful. The room was dirty, and the small bed was really uncomfortable. I couldn't have the window open because right outside were the fire escape stairs which people used to sit and smoke. Bugs were flying in the window anyway. They need to close this hotel and completely redo it. I don't recommend this hotel for anyone.

this so called hotel is awful.I recently stayed here due to urgent work commitments and there was nowhere else, the one consolation is that I didn't pay for my stay my employer did. the whole place smells like a nursing home, the subdued lighting in the main reception is not to enhance the ambiance but to hide the threadbare furnishing and carpets. the entrance is littered with cigarette ends not good. The rooms are very dated it's like being thrown back 30 years, pink plush furnishings, pink flowery carpets and flounced bedspreads, not duvets all of which have seen better days. the blackout coating on the curtains is all peeling and the window sills are black and mouldy. there is no hairdryer or iron in the room which nowadays is a bit poor. the breakfast was good with a selection of hot and cold food, however the staff did not look very happy but then I suppose if I worked here I would look miserable too. the beds are rock hard thought Iwas sleeping on ben nevis. the rooms are grubby. fluff all round the edge of the room and the wardrobe door runners were filthy.

Room Tip: think it's better at the back as the front is on a busy road and take a hairdryer and iron with...

Recently stayed at this hotel for work purposes. It's typical of the large "coaching" style hotels, bit tired around the edges - frayed carpets, dated decor, dodgy window locks and "evening entertainment".

That said the room's were clean and kept so for duration of stay, the leisure facilities were a bonus especially after long day at work and the breakfast buffet had enough variety for all the party.

The staff were polite and helpful and although its a hotel that lacks character if you are just interested in a place to rest a weary head then this is as good a place as any.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the main block otherwise it's practically a hike comparable with scaling t...

We spent one night in the hotel on our road trip in Scotland. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Fort William. The room itself was a bit dated, specially the bathroom, but still it was charming and very clean. It was a bit small, so if you arrive with lots of luggage the storage can be a bit of a problem. The hotel itself was very tidy and smelling fresh and clean. The SPA consists of a Steam Room, a Sauna, a Jacuzzi, a pool and a fair sized gym. It's kept very clean and the staff is very helpful and professional. The variety of food for breakfast was really good, everyone could find something for themselves. The staff was very caring and was always there when you needed them. The Bar was a bit dated, but the prices made up for this.
