“CLEAN, GOOD FOOD AND POOR SERVICE”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

Have stayed in Ben Nevis Hotel again and was disappointed for a first time!
One of the managers (with a big belly) walking around angry and unpleasant all the time.
Poor Service in the restaurant (where is the Polish girl??)
All my stay was just rescued by a clean room and a excellent meal in the ''confused'' restaurant.
Members of the staff (incuded managerment) need a lot more smile on their faces, how it used to be.

Nicely situated close to Fort William and in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the hotel occupies a location that surely would be hard to better. Reception was fast and efficient and our requirements, notified to the hotel in advance, were met in full.
The room was quite large but occupied by some unnecessary items of furniture that caused clutter. It was very clean although the decoration was clearly in need of updating. It looked very tired and did not help the atmosphere. The bed was probably the hardest I have ever had in a hotel. It may suit some but it was a little hard for my wife and I.
Food at Dinner was more than adequate with a decent variety for those on the 'set' menu. However, at breakfast the chef really excelled himself with a superb choice of cooked or continental breakfast, all beauitfully prepared and presented,
Should you like to hear the two words 'no problem' this is the place to be! Whenever we made a request of any type that is what we heard. The staff were well drilled in their responsibilties and smiled as they went about their duties.
Overall, we had a very good three nights there (despite the price of the beer!!) and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

This hotel is located just outside Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. The area is absolutely superb for any outdoor activity. We were there with our motorbikes although it is perfect for walkers, climbers, mountain biking etc. Breakfast was particularly good and the food is acceptable without being outstanding. The hotel is now getting a little tired and could do with some refurbishment. The bin area and rear of the hotel are looking very scruffy and for very little expense could sharpen the appearance considerably. The bedrooms were ok but again maybe some new more powerful vacuums are needed. Staff were very helpful though.

Room Tip: No preference here.

Stayed one night as part of a party of six cycling the West Highland Way. Ideally situated for us but did not have time to visit the pool or Leisure Club. It would have been useful to have information about the leisure club facilities in the bedroom, we would have considered making time to visit. The rooms were clean but beds uncomfortable + pillows flat. Meals in bar poor quality, but the breakfast was very good with an excellent buffet which catered for everyone.

The bedrooms are clean, although we had no central heating and it was cold outside. Breakfast good, although because this hotel is full of coach passenger's, it's like a bun fight, the facilities i.e. the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym make it special. We chose not to eat there for dinner but went down to Crannog (seafood restaurant on fort William town pier) just as well as when we were just getting ready to leave 690 teenager's came into the hotel, they were sitting, lying all over the foyer, no chair's left in the bar, the car park was full to overflowing with them, then they all went into the dining room to be fed....!! Although it was a charity walk, I think when we booked we should have been told what was going to happen!! Came back from a lovely meal to find the evening entertainment on.....ear plug's needed!! Most everybody walked out of the bar to get away from the noise!!

As we were walking we chose this hotel mainly for its leisure facilities.
Check in was easy, our room although dated was clean and had the basics you would expect. We never ate in the restaurant opting to go elsewhere as the menu was limited and the dining room looks more like it accommodates bus parties rather than small intimate tables. We used the bar which was adequate but again quite dated. Breakfast was fine; what you would expect for this type of hotel. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall absolutely fine for an overnight stay maybe not a holiday.

PROS
Great leisure facilities - nice size pool
Good value for money
Nice staff
Well stocked bar

CONS
Dated and could do with a refurb
Dark lounge area with no windows which meant you didn't want to sit for too long
Lacked character/atmosphere
