Clan Macduff Hotel
Ranked #6 of 21 Hotels in Fort William
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Just returned from Clan Macduff for the forth time, this hotel is spotless, great value for money, the staff from booking right through to dearture are very friendly and courteous, nothing is too much for them, our room was serviced daily, breakfast was plentyful, we ate twice at hotel in the bar / lounge and both times food was fresh and piping hot, our room was at the back of the hotel which was our choice as we prefered the peace and quiet from the main road, the rooms are very spacious and very comfortable to relax in, had a chuckle at the wee notice about the midgies on the window!! We got a good deal out of season at the Clan Macduff but the level of service was first class. Sad to be back home now and back to work!! The hotel is situated on the South approach to Fort William and is about 1 mile frm the town centre, there is a path that runs along by the loch that takes you to the centre of Fort William.

Room Tip: For a great stunning view take a fron facing room alothough you will pay extra, for peace and quiet...

A recent stay confirmed this as a good, clean and comfortable hotel. Rooms are modern and well equipped and the staff are friendly and efficient. We did not have dinner so I cannot comment on the restaurant generally but the breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. Good value and recommended.

Just spent another autumn holiday based in the Clan McDuff hotel in Fort William the hotel is spotlessly clean and comfortable and comes in line with 5* hotels for its cleanliness and attention to detail throughout. The Hotel has the old highland feel to it but with a modern style in furnishings and the bed has a good firm matress which i like and a spacious room with good lighting.

The meals are fab and plentiful and breakfast is fresh and politely served by friendly helpful staff as is the rest of the staff from booking to leaving they always have a friendly smile.

If you are thinking of visiting Fort William or the surrounding area the Clan McDuff Hotel has lots to offer and is Dog and Disabled friendly .

Room Tip: For a nice view front facing room or for that quiet night away from the main road a back facing room...

I stayed over one night on the way back from the Isle of Skye. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are very nice indeed. The service is excellent and the breakfast in the morning has a huge menu to choose from. The dining room has excellent views of the loch. There is also the 'puffin place' outside the hotel though unfortunately I did not see any puffins (of the bird variety)!!
In comparison with many other hotels I have stayed in, it was very good and very reasonable in price. Definitely would return.

It is a pretty standard hotel with ample parking (free).

It located some miles outside of town along the southern main road, which is one B&B next to the other. I would not recommend try walking into town as the area is rather boring making it a chore.

The hotel room was spacious and functional. This being Scotland it was of course also a bit old fashioned compared to what you'd met in most other places. A scottish feature of sorts.

There is a resturant and bar at the hotel, but the difference seems to be the rooms and service as they serve the same menus.

A word of warning is in place for the burger they serve. It is somewhat of an inhouse joke as also noted by others raving about its size etc.

The simple fact is that it is so huge that it is an issue quality wise as the bun is a bread in itself and the meat it virtually impossible to do well at the immense size used.

Given burgers are a go to item you choose when you want basic food, this is an issue, I'd rather strongly recommend they introduce a normal burger (that would be 1/3 the size if you are wondering) and go more quality over size.

The breakfast is on the other hand quite good and service is plentiful and attentive.

Given the price it is an ok place to spend a night or two.

me and my wife have stayed here every year for the past 8 years..and believe me before finding clan macduff i have stayed in some pretty poor hotels in scotland...

the rooms are clean and tidy, though my only complaint would be if you want a view,go for the front, the rear rooms the view is just a grassy bank, nothing to see...but hey thats me nit picking.

breakfast is great,good choices....

i read an earlier review about clan mcduff being out of fort william, true, its a fair walk into fort william from the hotel, but if your in a car,5 minute journey if that.

staff friendly and helpfull..
overall a freindly,clean hotel...book with confidence..for the price its a great hotel..we will be back..again.

Room Tip: rooms on the front have the better views...back rooms no view at all...apart from a dense tree view.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and had a very pleasant double room with a fantastic view over the loch. The receptionist was a little frosty on arrival but she did show us up to our room, giving a run down of the facilities as she went. The room itself was a good size, very clean and tidy with everything needed for a short stay. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and found the menu offered a good choice. The food was delicious and well presented although quite pricey for what it was. There was a nice bar area but the range of beer on offer was poor. Although there was a Guinness pump on the bar, it was served from a can. The breakfast was excellent and really set us up for the day ahead. The hotel is quite a way out of Fort William - we did walk it from the station on one occasion but it took us 45 minutes at a brisk pace.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room overlooking the loch but away from the smoking hut below.
