Owner description: Enjoy this fantastic cruise under the slopes of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, onboard the historic vessel Souters Lass. The Skipper gives an entertaining and informative commentary as the boat cruises past a salmon farm, mussel farm and on to view Black Rock where seals can be seen most of the year. Look out from our deck or from our cosy viewing lounge for porpoise, otters and all kinds of sea birds and red deer.

“Nice view of Ben Nevis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

Lovely relaxing cruise with nice friendly crew. Saw a Dolphin, seals, trout farm. Not to mention the great views. We were lucky to see the grey elephant surrounded by a little light cloud. Many photographic opportunities.

“VERY RELAXING”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

We undertook the 1015 hours sailing. The sun was out and the Loch was like a millpond. Once we left the quayside and headed into the Loch you could only hear the seabirds and no traffic it was very relaxing. We saw some deer on the mountain side and some grey herons on the shoreline. The salmon were leaping at the fish farm. I found the captain very funny as he gave a running commentary and some very funny stories around Ben Nevis. We crossed the Loch to a small island where there were a number of common seals basking in the early sunshine. On the way back to the quay there was a cool breeze so a coat was needed despite the sun. Warm tartan blankets werer offered to those who wanted them. You can get drinkis and snacks on board and if the weather is not so good part of the boat is covered. However I would recommend go on a good weather day if you want to see most things. You can book in advance or just turn up. The boat appeared to have more capacity when we went and we only turned up at the last minute. It lasts about 90 minutes but is well worth the £12-50. The previous day porpoises had been sighted.

Thank you for taking the time to post such positive comments on TripAdvisor.

It is lovely to read that you enjoyed so many aspects of the trip especially the wildlife watching from this unique location. Our staff always try to be attentive and the skippers live commentary adds the final touch to this cruise in the loch below Ben Nevis.

“Boat trip good, wildlife.....missing!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

A very nice trip up and down Loch Linnhe, but I think we could have had a better day weather wise. We left the quayside in sunny conditions albeit a bit windy, but the clouds and mist came in and Ben Nevis disappeared.
The boat ride was fun. We sat on deck and got blown around, and even came close to a soaking when the boat must have hit a small wave. The trip took us to a salmon farm ( salmon leaping) and a mussel farm and we then headed across the Loch to find seals, but unfortunately it wasn't the right day and there were none. This of course was not the fault of the crew, it's just your luck and I notice that another reviewer saw quite a bit of wildlife, so you take your chance.
The crew brought out blankets to keep us warm ( it was only July of course!!!!) and we had a good commentary for what we did see. The boat's skipper had good local knowledge even to the extent that when we docked he said "It will be raining in Fort William in about a quarter of an hour"....and it was!
I think that a good day would be better to take this cruise if you want to see more wildlife, but for an ordinary cruise on the Loch I would recommend that you tried Crannog.

“Didn't see much wildlife - but still a good trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

Unfortunately the weather was not great so we didn't really see much! But I still really enjoyed it. The commentary was good and clear, they serve a good cup of tea and were very helpful and friendly. They even had spare fleeces in case you got too cold! If you're visitinf Fort William then I'd say this is worth doing.
