“Do Not Go to This Hotel!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2006

This "hotel" was like a very bad youth hostel. It was both dirty and smelly. Staff were hard to distinguish from guests and were generally found outside the front of the hotel smoking. The room we stayed in was filthy - the bedding was old, yellow and covered in hairs and the bathroom was disgusting. We had booked to stay three nights but only stayed one after failing to find other accomodation. We could not bear the thought of eating in the hotel and so left first thing in the morning. Staying in this hotel was a complete nightmare - Please don't make the same mistake we did.

we have just returned home after our long awaited trip to Fort wiiliam.. we stayed at the Innseagan hotel and were told on arrival that they did not have our booking.. we did manage to get a room but it was at the back of the hotel, above the kitchen and was very small and pokey for the £86.00... the staff seemed to have there fag breaks out side our window and the talk was pretty fowl and loud. would not go back as the staff appeared not to have a clue as to what they were doing, we waited 20mins to be served in the bar and breakfast was just mayhem.. the hotel it self was okay but if in the right hands would be a gold mine, staff were the main problem, the recepionist seemed to be on the phone all the time, another couple arrive just after us and were told they had no room for them so were put to another hotel, seems like they were lucky !! would not say it was worth the money, you would expect a better service from a bigger hotel but not this one all i can say is it leaves a black mark on our trip to Fort william and will think twice before returning to Fort william if this is what they have to offer there.

We stayed at this "hotel" a couple of years ago and looked it up on the trip advisor to see how accurate their reviews were. I was so annoyed by the favourable reviews that I felt I had to do one of my own.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and it is made worse by the way it is sold at shows. It is worth about £15 per night maximum. I would agree with all the poor reports and I would also agree with one of the reviews which doubts the genuineness of the good reviews. Looking at some of the photos should convince people which reviews are true.

The only good things about this hotel are the views from some of the rooms and some of the staff.

It is a big con, stay away.

We have just returned from the Innseagan House Hotel in Fort William - we booked our holiday at the Motorcycle Show in Alexander Palace London - from a show stand.

We found the price quite good at the show but feel we would not be prepared to pay the actual listed room price of £120 a night for a double room as the room we were given was very small, with not much storage space just one wardrobe and two small chest of draws - there was a large draw under the bed but this had been nailed shut for some reason so could not be used.
There was only a shower in our room, which worked but needed some repair to the holder as this had been taped up as it was broken but it still worked.

The radio alarm clock was broken on arrival which we took down to reception but we never received a replacement we did not chase up the hotel as we had our own clock.

The TV worked but there was only 4 channels - with no facility to have more.

We were given tea and coffe when we used it in our room along with clean towels but we were not given any more shower gel or shampoo when used - possibly if we had asked at reception we could have received more.

There was no mini bar in the room - but fortunately we had our own fridge.

There was not air conditioning or a fan so as the weather was quite warm and the room was so small (just a few feet bigger all round a double bed) the room could be a bit stuffy.

Other guests complained to us of being disappointed with both the size of their room and the view from their room, as they wanted a loch view and although the loch was visible from quite a few rooms in our room we had a view of the car park and could see the loch if we peered round the corner.

The restaurant was clean, bright and airy, the breakfast was of excellent quality - we tried the porridge, the full breakfast and also both the fish dishes - Scottish Kippers and Haddock with a poached egg which was delicious.

The dinner menu was of an exceptable quality but this could have been improved by having chefs specials or varying the menu as the same menu was rolled out every night, which is a bit predictable.

The room was clean and the hotel serviced our room daily. We would like to say how pleased we were as on one occasion we forgot to take out a wallet full of cash, credit cards and a mobile phone and when we returned, although the room had been serviced nothing had been removed we find this refreshing and feel that the hotel staff should be praised for their honesty, although we would not recommend other guests doing this on a regular basis.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel but we definately do not feel the hotel - which is located a little way out of Fort William, possible to walk but quite a distance and we would recommend using a car or bike to travel into Fort William where in long term car parks for £1.50 you can park all day.

Like others, we (my wife and I plus two friends) read what people have written on these pages and were a bit unsure about the hotel. On arrival the greeting was pleasant and that lasted the whole three day stay. The rooms were adequate and clean and we paid the little extra for a Loch view which was fine. The breakfast was good and the staff one morning brought us fried egg instead of scrambled egg as asked and it was soon corrected and a very nice apology to go with it. (Plus extra toast to keep us going). We used the small bar to have a drink before walking the tweny minute walk into Fort William but this goes quickly as the scenery is just fantastic and you forget about the walking. The lounge area where we had a drink on return every night is nice and quiet to relax in. One point against the hotel is that it can be noisy at night, doors closing/banging, people not considering others and talking/shouting late at night. (Not staffs fault and if it had went on I would have knocked on doors and told them to keep quiet). Don't be put off by what others have put here as it's not as bad as you might think. It's not 5* and it never will be but just a nice wee clean hotel to put your head down while on holiday. Forgot to say on arrival we noticed the tariff was £120 per double/twin per night and we thought the price had gone up since booking. We asked about this very early on on our stay and we were told that this is the price if you just step off the road wanting a room. It is definately NOT worth £120 per night. It cost us £80 per night which I thought was a bit high considering we have stayed at quite a few better hotels that were much cheaper.

So, my final scoring out of 10.

Staff - 9 (nearly 10 but nobody is perfect).
Room - 7
Bathroon - 6
Breakfast - 8
Location - 8
Cost - 6
View - 9
Noise at night - 5

Don't be put off, GO.

We had to visit Fort William to see a relative in hospital - so not a pleasant reason to visit at all.

However, the hotel itself was clean, the food (breakfast) was good, the staff - especially the bar manager - were extremely accomodating. Sitting in the smallish bar, feeling morose, he managed to get a good conversation going between ourselves and the four other families - just what we needed.

The rooms themselves- whist smallish - were very clean, comfortable. And the shower was fantastic.

I've read some of the previous reviews of this hotel, and can say that my stay wasnt like that at all. They were very very keen to please - to the extent of holding rooms for us above and beyond the call of duty, and letting my elderly father into his room early, as he had arrived some hours before me. I've tried to do that at other - far more expensive hotels - and didnt expect this to work. Quite the reverse - the staff couldnt have been better.

Improvements ? Wireless internet would have helped a great deal - I was still supposed to be working. But you can see why most holidaymakers - desperate to get away from work - would have put this at the bottom of the list.

Remember - this is a fairly small hotel, some distance from the center of Fort William. Its not a four seasons, nor Gleneagles. Get those expectations correct, and you'll have a grand time.

My Husband and I booked a 3 night BB deal for £200 at the Good Food and Wine show last December. I went looking for reviews once I had booked and was very disappointed by what I found. I did not mention the reviews to my husband as I did not want him to change his mind. I originally booked for Feb but had to change which they were very accomodating about. We were taking our 3 year old son so I was slighty worried that they may not be child friendly. When we arrived it was slightly scruffier on the outside than the brochure portrayed but still nice, I did not realise that it actually faced onto the main road into Fort William then onto the Loch. The staff were very friendly when we checked in and did nothing more than make us feel very welcome the whole stay. I would say they went out of their way to help us, on one occasion my son wet the bed and they were straight onto it offering a new mattress. The menu in the resturant didn't look like much when we got there the first night but being too tired to go elsewhere we decided to eat in the resturant and thankfully we did as the menu does not give the food justice, every course was well presented and extremley tasty. The room was average and could do with being updated but on the whole we had a very pleasant stay and I would like to thank the staff for making our stay more special. I mentioned the poor reviews to my husband after we left and he said that he was glad we came and had really enjoyed the stay. I would reccomend people to go and stay to make their own minds up, but we enjoyed it.
