“Beautiful B&B with gorgeous views, delicious breakfast”
Reviewed June 8, 2009

We stayed at Cuilcheanna during our roadtrip around Scotland last week. This was one of our top 3 favourite B&Bs - possibly most favourite - of all the places we stayed in.

Kirstie, the owner, was nice, warm and welcoming. The breakfast was the best of our trip, compared with 6 other B&Bs around Scotland. The rooms and views of the loch were perfect.

We stayed in the 'Arran' room which had two, separate twin beds (we couldn't push them together), while our friends stayed in the 'Skye' room which had a double bed. Both had ensuite bath/showers, had gorgeous loch views and very clean and cozy. I could have stayed there the entire week.

The home baked short bread cookies in the room were a nice touch, something we didn't see in other B&Bs in our trip (and we stayed in some really fabulous B&Bs, too!)

Breakfast was the best. We were allowed to come down anytime between 8-930am (we didn't need to agree a specific time the day before which we had to do with the other B&Bs) and could order whatever we wanted on the day which was great. A couple of us had the full cooked Scottish breakfast (delicious!!! sausages, ham and eggs were delicious!). My husband tried the haggis and black pudding which were delicious, too.

Location was great - far away from the busy and brassy Fort William area filled with hotels and B&Bs but only about 15 minute drive back to town if we needed anything.

All around excellent B&B and highly recommended. We will definitely be back!

We stayed in this lovely, family run B&B when we visited the area to climb Ben Nevis and explore the surrounds. It is located about a 10-15min drive from Fort William.
The owners were very friendly and were more than willing to help us out with our queries on the area. Rooms were warm and cosy with spotless ensuite. Tea, coffee and bottled water were complimentary. Wide range of options available for breakfast. In the months of October to April, you can arrange to have a three course dinner provided for you on request - this was a welcome extra after our long trek up the mountain! This B&B also has an alcohol licence.

We stayed at this lovely B&B over Easter as were up in the Highlands to climb Ben Nevis. The gardens and house are really lovely, as was the room we stayed in - all delightfully decorated. There is a lovely large sitting room, with an open fire, which we made good use of most nights - especially with some cards and a drink or two (this B&B has a licence!). Bathrooms and bedrooms were spotless and warm - breakfast was delicious and the owners were very helpful - with lots of touristy tips and maps. We were well looked after! The Easter Bunny even found us here...

Stayed for a week & enjoyed every minute. A great location for Fort William, Ben Nevis, Glen Coe, etc & set in an ideal spot away from the main road virtually on the shores of the loch, with views of the hills.

Extremely welcoming & hospitable hosts. Lots of home comforts & excellent breakfasts.

Highly recommended - should be on everyone's itinerary when touring the Highlands.

We were the first visitors to stay in this lovely B&B after the new owners had taken over running this and were really impressed how much effort they took to ensure our stay was both comfortable and memorable.

The breakfast options were great and the location overlooking the Loch made our stay and short visit to this area definitely worth re-visting with it's close proximity to Ben Nevis , Glen Coe and so many other fantastic sites on the west side of Scotland.

This B&B has new owners since October 2007. They take great care in making the guests feel welcome and are very friendly.
The rooms are lovely, spacious, very clean and warm.
There's a beautiful lounge where you can relax and enjoy the view of the Loch.
There's a good choice for breakfast, from continental (toast, cereals etc) to cooked.
We would always come back to this haven of tranquility and highly recommend this house to everyone.

We recently enjoyed an excellent few days at Cuilcheanna House. Despite the Scottish autumn weather, this small hotel provided the best of all that we wanted. With only six or seven bedrooms, and run by husband and wife Scott and Linda Russell, service was excellent and the food quite outstanding.

The rooms are all very comfortable and, wonderfully, completely devoid of televisions. The location of the hotel is remarkable being set above Loch Linnhe looking South-East down the loch to Mull; the view is frameed by the mountains of Glencoe to the East and the mountains of Morvern to the West.

Linda cooks the food to a set menu although those with food intolerances and dislikes can be catered for. The standard is unequalled and shows the benefit of skill being applied to a single set of dishses and spread out over a large and disparate menu. The wine list is quite long but full of interesting bottles - all at very reasoanble prices. We had a different bottle (or more) every night and there was not one that we would not like to have again.

One final and vital point concerns value for money. The prices are very reasonable and we know nowhere that can offer as much for the price.

We will be visiting again and recommend Cuilcheanna House to anynody in need of a quiet and comfortable period in the best scenery that Britain has to offer.
