We had been looking forward to our first Christmas away with friends for over 18months and were bitterly disappointed.
The hotel was very nice as was our rooms and staff. However it was very regimented having to have meals at a set time with no leeway.
The food, which is the main concern was dreadful, and jusdging by the amount of food that was left at every meal time surelyu the manager should have realised that all was not well. Complaints were made but no real differnce. Christmas dinner was the ultimate disaster with every part of the meal frozen, even the carrots and sprouts. Christmas pudding was the like of I have never seen before covered with a watery liquid which wewere told was brandy butter. There was no proper entertainment during the day and there was nothing festive about the holiday except for the christmas tree. I even had to ask for the fire to be lit in the entrance to make it more welcoming. There were not enough comfy chairs to accomodate the guests.
Enough said but I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. If anyone reading this went on the same christmas experience please write a review.

Just returned from a trip to the Highland hotel, first time in Scotland for me so extra special, this hotel is very welcoming as are the many members of staff. It is clean, food is very good, prices at the bar very reasonable not like hotel prices at all, the waiters and bar staff are so friendly nothing is too much trouble. Evening entertainment weas not our cup of tea, but then it is geared to a more mature age group. If walking is a problem then it may be a little inaccessible for a stroll as to reach the hotel on foot there are numerous steps or a very steep incline. This didn't bother us in fact is gave us the opportunity to walk off the excess food we consumed. Having said that the Lochs and Glens coaches quite literally drop you off and pick you up at the door therefore the steep aspect would only be a problem is you wanted to get out and about on your own. Fort William is lovely and has quite a selection of different shops including a large Morrisons supermarket (and of course the obligatory MacDonalds). The Lochs and Glens driver (Chris) was very knowledgable and was always on hand if you needed him, the whole thing was very well organised from when we were picked up at the local bus station the driver took our cases, they were taken from the coach by the hotel staff to our rooms and put back on the coach by the driver, everything that could be done or thought of to make the stay a pleasant one was done. I would definately use Lochs and Glens again without any hesitation and would recommend the Highland for a stay.

We chose the Lochs and Glens trip because we were attracted by the two for one offer.
Our expectation level of actually enjoying the hotel was pretty low. But for the price we thought whats to lose?
We were self drive guests and were quite prepared to travel into town for our meals.
How wrong we were.
Customer service was friendly, efficient and instilled a feeling that the staff were actually interested in fulfilling our needs.
The organisation could not be faulted.

The location was ideal for touring.
A trip on the local steam train service is not to be missed.
The weather was acceptable, but not glorious!

If our experience at the Highland Hotel is typical of the group then we shall most certainly be "trying out" a Lochs and Glens venue again next year.

What can I write that as not been already written about this amazing hotel. We also went with driver Dave and could not agree more with the praise for his knowledge of the area, his driving and his great personality. The tours we went on were great as already mentioned plus his optional was well worth it.
As for the hotel itself we were on the ground floor and the rooms were recently refurbished making them clean, fresh with a great shower (plenty of room to move about in, nice for the larger person-- me).
I could not agree more with the comments on the food or the service we received, cheerful staff to whom nothing was to much trouble, there was entertainment every night and by that I mean good entertainment, plenty of seating with more rooms other than the main hall where you could chill out or play some board games. Being on the ground floor we had a limited view of the loch but of course the higher you went the better the view, the walk to town was down a fairly steep road of about 10 mins and if you did not fancy the walk back, a taxi from the bus station at a cost of about £2 was welcome.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough, it was all you could want for your short stay. I would just like to mention the manergress Paula Dale who was a great help in anything she could do for you, you would even see her helping out at dinner time with her staff, not the normal manergress then who normally are hard to find in times of trouble.
So there we are I could not find fault with this hotel or the tour, only downside for me personally was the travelling 13 to 14 hours but it was worth it

our 3rd trip with lochs and glens, who do offer excellent value for money, reasonable food comfy and clean rooms. but despite booking a year in advance we found ourselves in a basement room with a view of the rear gutter and a bank of tree roots, you don,t see this extention on any photos, the corridor and above floorboards creaked all night. we were rushed through the meals, being asked what we wanted for main meal while having a mouthful of starter!! the excursions to see the scenery were very long with very short (45 mins) breaks, most days were 8-9hrs on coach. this holiday was classed as a 7day break.....2days travelling to scotland with an overnight stay at preston in a superb hotel with riverview but bar prices extortionate , 3days in scotland and another 2days travelling home stopping overnight in same hotel.would holiday again with lochs and glens but not at this hotel or on an overnight stop over, far too long spent on the coach, it didnt help we had a new coach driver who didnt know the area so we were,nt pointed out places of interest or any commentary at all.also this hotel is not on a loch, it has a loch view that is 4 flights of step steps down into fort william town then across a road before you are at loch linnhe
