“Great food and Hospitality”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Our family of seven from Australia had a great time at the Lime Tree, the rooms were comfortable with all amendies great. The food was fantastic and really top chefs work here. Breakfast was fantastic and the children had a great time eating there way through the menu. The staff were always helpful and gave us some great tips on the area and where to visit.

Room Tip: all rooms visited were excellent

Happily The Lime Tree is quite close to the end of the WHW and the wonderful girl at reception produced the requested Gin and Tonic with understanding and speed!!!

The room was delightful; we liked the arty decor and loved the working window shutters. They have an excellent menu - everything we had was absolutely delicious and the chef was kind enough to discuss his menu - and how he made the rosemary and bay icecream (yummy) Overall, the decor, service and food were excellent and we would definitely choose the Lime Tree the next time we are in the area.

I find it unbelievable that The Lime Tree has ANY negative reviews, let alone so many!

Stayed here fairly recently and rate it as possibly the best £85 we've spent on accommodation. The proprietor dealt with us, highlighting that he was covering for his wife. He was pleasant and made us feel welcome.

Our room was a good size, modern and tastefully decorated. Expense didn't appear to have been spared. This appeared to be the case throughout; very tasteful with a relaxed vibe.

We bumped into the proprietor a couple of times during the stay and we found him very relaxed and genuinely friendly. He showed us round the hotel, including a look around his art gallery.

As it worked out, we didn't have dinner in the hotel. However, we regretted this after having breakfast in the lovely dining room. The food was fresh, well presented and the proprietor was on hand to deal with orders, chat to guests etc, whilst the chef was there cooking food to order. My partner had a full, cooked Scottish breakfast and I had a lightly toasted bread with mozzarella, tomato and basil in a light dressing. It was perfect! Teas, coffees, juices, continental breakfast ingredients etc were available in abundance, all fresh ingredients and freshly prepared.

The location is perfect, a couple of minutes walk from the Main St. where the bars, cafés and shops etc are to be found.

We plan to return to Fort William in the near future to climb Ben Nevis and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else! We'll definitely dine in the Lime Trees charming little restaurant this time. Can't wait...

We found the Lime Tree to be a great way to finish the West Highland Way. Service, food and room ( 2 double beds and en suitebathroom) were all excellent. We thought that the meal was the best we had eaten on the whole trail ( about 95 miles ) ans we would recommend the restaurant to anybody as a treat when finishing the trail, even if you're not staying at the Lime Tree.

Unlike other reviewers who seem to get bookings at the last minute, we booked 6 months in advance just to make sure we could get into the Lime Tree as the last stage in our West Highland Way walking (3 couples) - we had email confirmation & booking references for all 3 rooms. Lime Tree advised us that they had only 2 rooms booked and that the 3rd room was cancelled in July - they did not have a room in Lime Tree for the night (no prior communication / email confirmation of that)!
Whatever the mitigating circumstances might be this was not the celebratory end to our holiday we had planned. Lime Tree eventually tried to assist / ease the pain but it took an hour to get someone who could make these decisions. Indicative of a varying service level (see other reviews) and not what we had been led to believe. Very disappointing.

This was one of the most expensive nights stays at £110 a night on our weeks tour of Scotland and I have to say it was a bit of a let down. The view from our room was lovely, overlooking the Loch but the room was quite tired and shabby. The bathroom had mould on the ceiling and there were holes in the bedroom wall where the mirror had been changed but hadn't been filled, there was tape over one of the plug sockets in the extension bar, which didn't look too great!
The lady that took us to our room was friendly and cheerful but that was it, the staff in the restaurant in the morning were the opposite, barely a word out of the young girl that served us at our table and then took our payment, but she then asked if we wanted to leave a tip!! I didn't find it a particularly warm and welcoming place but have to say the breakfast was really good.

The room was pretty basic but we did leave it to the last minute to book. On booking we were told that the hotel was dog friendly and indeed we did take the dog and paid for him to stay. Unfortunately we were asked to put the dog in the car when we were having dinner in the restaurant. I don't feel that it was dog friendly. On the other hand the staff were delightful and friendly. The restaurant was absolutely amazing. Fantastic food and really reasonable. Overal our stay was very pleasant and we would return if they made the dog more welcome! I would recommend the Lime Tree for the restaurant and staff.
