“talented musicians but still feels a bit like a tourist folklore show”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

It seems to be rather difficult to find a place in Scotland where you can listen to good folk music. Having said that, this show definitely hosted talented musicians (and dancer) but the whole setting still felt like some kind of folklore show for the tourists (no Scot was present apart from the artists). Well, Fort William probably isn't the best location either to expect something authentic where you can meet the locals. Had a nice evening nevertheless but fled from this tourist-valhalla valley next morning to the isles

“Fabulous evening out.”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

The show cannot help but seem touristy as Fort William in summer would have both hillwalkers and Steam Engine tourists around. However, the musicians were exceptionally talented -- playing multiple instruments and singing both fast-paced footstomping songs to throaty Gaelic sings about life and living in the Highlands. We had a marvellous time just listening to good live music and whilst the setting was quite cosy, the affair had an intimate feel (especially for us as we had just come from music sessions at the Edinburgh Fringe -- and these guys could give the sold out music sessions we went to a run for the money). Been going to FTW every year for the walking but its been the first time I had thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hours away from the hills. Even if one does not really want to participate in the dancing, the live music is certainly something enjoyable to listen to! The music of the highlands certainly evokes the hauntingly beautiful hills, glens, lochs and islands -- these guys delivered on this!
