We stayed at many a B & B during our travels but nothing compares to the Grange. The view overlooking the lochs, the decor of the room, the hospitality.... are all second to none.

We had a superb stay at The Grange: we got engaged that day up on the West Coast where we'd been camping, when the weather turned and we decided to treat ourselves. What a treat it was! After being wowed by our room, we were served tea and shortcake in the beautiful lounge, using all lovely crockery and silver. We loved the size of our room -it contained a big bed, wardrobe and lovely mirrored dressing table, then a chaise lounge, two chairs and a small table, before heading into the bathroom with fantastic walk-in shower and enormous freestanding bath. The views from the room were lovely, looking down to the garden and then the Loch beyond. I really liked all the little extras - the towels were tied up with a ribbon and placed in a small open wicker suitcase, the decanter of whisky with lovely glassware...Breakfast was very nice, my poached eggs arrived with a viola flower, my porridge was served with whisky, cream, brown sugar and honey. A really superb place that we would love to go back to and cannot recommend highly enough.

We stayed at the Grange for three nights during our visit to the highlands.

Joan was a very friendly host who keeps a immaculate home. The views over the loch are stunning from the bedroom that we had.

The breakfast was sufficient to keep you going until the evening, although Joan does not do evening meals she did recommend some lovely restaurants.

We can not rate this place highly enough and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Having read the other reviews here we booked a two night stay at The Grange as part of a trip away and prepared to be wowed.

Wowed we were! The stay was everything you would expect and more. We arrived early from the overnight sleeper into Fort William but found that after a short wait (during which we were given tea and fabulous shortbread) our room was ready for us and it wasn't even 11 in the morning. This set the tone for our entire stay, with an excellent and attentive host and loveable sidekick Shamus the Scottie who we even took out for a walk before we left.

The Grange itself is a beautiful looking building and has been restored to an extremely high standard and our room was exceptional. The views out over the Loch from both the bedroom and the bathroom were amazing.

The breakfasts were sumptuos and kept you going until the evening - we saved plenty of money on lunches, so if you think this is expensive when compared to other B&Bs in the area bear this in mind.

Overall, whilst Fort William isn't the most beautiful place in Scotland The Grange is certainly the most beautiful B&B

My husband and I travel to Scotland frequently and always manage to head over to Fort William for a stay at The Grange. It makes a perfect stop after a drive through Glen Coe and then on to Skye or The Western Highlands. The rooms are charming, very comfortable and everything is there to make your stay perfect. The views are splendid and breakfast is a real treat.....don't miss the fruit compote! Joan goes out of her way to make your stay so enjoyable.

My husband and I have just returned from a bank holiday break at The Grange. What can I say? It is just fantastic! We arrived to a very warm welcome from Joan (the owner) and the offer of tea and shortbread in the lounge. We gratefully accepted and were shown to a sumptuous lounge with large comfortable couches and books lining the shelves. The tea was served on a silver tray with china crockery and homemade shortbread and cake. Just what we needed after a long drive!

We stayed in the Turret Room and fell in love with it as soon as we stepped in. The large 4 poster bed and luxurious chairs were to die for, as was the view out to Loch Linnhe from our windows. The room had every amenity we could ask for including an extremely powerful rainfall shower.

Breakfast in the morning was HUGE! We had a day of exploring planned so I had the porridge to start--served with a choice of accompaniments including cream, brown sugar, whisky and honey--definitely the best porridge I have ever had, better even than my mother's! We then went on to our 'main course' of full Scottish breakfast and toast. All served with fresh juice and tea or coffee. Needless to say, there was no lunch for us that day!

Joan is just the perfect hostess, always there when you need her but not intrusive in any way. During our stay, we also came across their Scottie dog Seamus who is very friendly and eager to be fussed over.

I absolutely adored this property and cannot give the owners high enough praise. We shall definitely be back again and I would recommend anyone travelling to Fort William to splash out a little and stay here. You will not regret it!

We booked the Grange, partly due to our own research, partly with the help of our travel agent.
What we read about Fort William was not too encouraging, but we have learned that opinions, including our own, are just that. We liked Fort William and we liked the area. The word on The Grange was very positive. We were promised we would like it.
Joan Campbell, with the help of her carpenter husband, has built an excellent B&B. It has all the amenities of any good home, as well as any B&B, without being worn out and tired.
Choices of woods, wall treatments, fabrics, furniture, bathroom fixtures, bedding--well, the list is endless. Joan has thought of it all. The Grange is the most comfortable, and inviting B&B we have seen in our many years of travel.
Food was excellent. The property was easy to find, and get to. It sits on the side of a hill near the edge of town, and has great views of the loch. Its matured landscaping gives it a real sense of privacy. Non-smoking, and very quiet .
We appreciated our stay there very much.

  • Liked — Even though it is an historic building, it felt fresh and new throughtout.
