Foods always excellent, love the Grog Dogs especially the Boars Breath Chilli Dog Melt. Service is good. Eat in the bar or upstairs in the restaurant. Local ales always on draught, plenty of whisky's to choice from. Always busy, popular with walkers, climbers and hikers, but you don't have to be part of one of these groups to enjoy the atmosphere. Great music nights.

Cosy and friendly pub. Decent wood work throughout including aged chairs and tables. Good selection of ales and lagers on tap plus bottled Heather beer. Tasty and reasonably priced bar food.

We ate here on a recommendation!!! Hmmmm! Ordered a chicken burrito and 'wild boar chilli'! The upstairs room of the pub which was the 'restaurant' was cold, bare and had no atmosphere. The two girls who were taking orders were doing just that and no more, apart from checking their phones for the duration of our forty minutes in the place. It was hard to get their attention to order extra drinks or to get the bill. The burrito was completely tasteless and I had to add salt to get any flavour at all which is odd for Mexican food. The chicken in the burrito appeared to be chopped up sliced cooked chicken the like of which can be bought in Tesco on the pre packed meat counter. The 'wild boar chilli' was not too wild and was enhanced with a pile of corn chips. Both of the meals were poor but, for the princely sum of £10.25, the chilli was a particularly bad rip off and represented very poor value for money.

An overall okay place to eat, but definitely a great place to drink some beer. It´s a cosy place with kind service. I would definitely visit the Grog & Gruel Again some time.

if you are looking for a cosy pub with nice ales minus sky sport and betting machines, this is a place. I could not find any other place in Fort William with such a great atmosphere .
if your choice is Stella and large tv with footie on it then this is probably not a right place for you.
the place is nicely decorated and has a good vibe.Highly recommended for any ale lover.
