We were quite excited about this adventure into Fort William, we researched places to stay and went by reviews, we were disappointed with our stay, we were uncomfortable, and felt like we were intruding instead of being welcomed. This is not a good apartment for people with mobility issues . There were some surprises about our booking fees, and we won't be going back or recommending this place to our friends. There were many issues we felt needed addressing. We were there for 2 weeks, and in the middle of the first 3 days wish we had booked elsewhere.

Room Tip: Check it out before you go, make sure and have all your paperwork with you about priceing, and quest...

We are sorry that this guest felt uncomfortable with their stay after three days. As we had no idea of this we could not do anything about the situation. As for the access issue the guest was notified in their inital enquiry that there were five steps up to the apartment yet they still decided to book the apartment knowing that there could be an issue with access.
With regard to booking fees, a 2% service charge is levied on balances and not deposits. We wholly agree that in depth research needs to be carried out when looking for somewhere to stay, be it for a fortnight or one night. Access for the less mobile and arrival times need to confirmed so that both guest and property owner are aware of each situation.
As the guest in question did not bring the issues that they mentioned in their review to us we could not do anything to resolve them.

Just stayed at the Balcarres guest house for 3 nights. Mike and Jackie made us feel very welcome. The room was very comfortable and clean and well equipped, with some good finishing touches. Mike and Jackie made us feel very welcome. There was plenty of choice for breakfast each morning. Would recommend the full English breakfast it was beautiful. Good location with fantastic views and easy to get to. Would defiantly stay there again. Thanks Mike and Jackie. Andy from Manchester

We spent 8 nights in Balcarres. It was a beautiful time. Our room had a great view to the Loch Linnhe. The room was big, very clean and cosy. The bathroom was clean and big enough. In the basement there is a living-room, with many books and flyers for your activities in the Highlands. The breakfast is excellent and very varied. You can choose between different meals. For the house there is a private parking and banks to sit down and enjoy the Loch view. To the town-center it is 3 minutes by car or 15 min. walk along the Loch. We can absolutely recommended this house. The owners are so generous and helpful and we had the warmest welcome you can dream of!

A very pleasant guest house that was in a scenic location with lovely views from the room. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. This was a very enjoyable stay and I would recommend this guest house to anyone thinking of visiting the town of Fort William. There was ample car parking, though I would warn anyone who hasn't got a vehicle that the guest house is on quite a steep hill, so be prepared for a climb back to the guest house from the town!

The place is great and so were the hosts. The rooms were great and the friends with us from USA were impressed. The guest house has a lake in front(though not directly) so if there's a lake facing room, nothing would beat that.

We are sorry that this guest was disappointed with our service. If our guest felt that there was a problem they could have spoken to us with a view to solving the said problem. All guests are asked if everything was satisfactory at the time of departure so we do not quite understand why the issues were not brought to our attention.

As for used towels in the room this is out of the question, these are all changed on a daily basis and fresh towels are supplied for each new guest. As for heating each room has its own temperature controlled radiator that the guest can set at the temperature that suits them.

Once again we can only sort out a guests problems with our bed and breakfast if they come and see us at the time of their visit. We feel we offer a good selection for our breakfast with porridge, fruit juices, fruit salad, flavoured and natural yoghurt, cereal, full breakfast, smoked salmon, croissants and we also serve boiled, fried, scrambled and poached eggs.
We are sad that we did not offer a wider selection of food for this guest.
