Kilmalyn Guest House
Ranked #52 of 111 Fort William B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 3, 2012

We checked quite a lot of accommodations in Fort Williams region and at last booked this guest house through their own booking system as there they offered a special spring rate (about 20% cheaper with direct booking)not available on the big booking systems. At least we thought we would have booked as we got a reservation receipt. So we cancelled all our information about the other accommodations in Fort William region we had collected before. We shouldn't have done this. Three day after our booking we got an information, that they didn't know how we could book their rooms for the spring rate, they didn't want us as guest for that reduced tarif in may (isn't that spring time?) Even when we argued that we had booked with their own home page booking system and have a written confirmation they said they didn't reserve the room for us. We said " it's not our fault but okay what's your solution" as their regular rate is much to high for just a room with 2 beds. For example why didn't they offer a 10% discount. Their solution was simple: "we've cancelled your reservation and will tranfer your prepaid money back".
What an unfriendly answer! Is this scottish hospitality? As they know that it would be quite difficult for foreigners to get their rights they didn't take care about their mistake.
Another bad experience when they booked the money back. Because of the money exchange fees of the bank we not only had this fee for reservation, but when we got back our money we again had to pay the exchange rate from gbp to euro.
To come to an end: our experience with Kilmalyn guest house ended in not being welcomed foreign guests, in not accepting own faults and in much discussions with the owners and much trouble to find an other accommodation. We were happy that all other people we met in Scotland were really freindly and welcoming.

My husband, 3 kids and I all stayed here in October 2011 and stayed in Room1 which was excellent, well decorated and very roomy.
Breakfast was fabulous especially the Stornaway black pudding, which was all made to order btw.
The owners/ family were the perfect hosts and even took time out to show our kids the chickens and rabbits they had in the garden.
The best part for us was when they took time out to wave to us all on the Jacobite Express Train when we passed their house after we had checked out.

Me, husband and son(5), stayed here for 3 nights on a holiday tour of Scotland. It was by far the best guest house we stayed in all the holiday. The room we stayed in all together was very big and had a big double bed and a sofa bed for my son. There was still plenty of room in the bedroom and it had a lovely bathroom with a roll top bath looking out on the views of the loch under Ben Nevis. The family were very welcoming and my son in particularly loved staying there. He still talks about how Norman was so helpful and told him so much about the wildlife we could see in the area. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it. The homemade shortbread in the rooms was also the best in Scotland!!The chapmans

We booked a family room at Kilmalyn without reading reviews or comparing it to other nearby B&Bs....I am normally a "planner"- but last minute changes required that we book whatever was available in the area- and that could accomodate a family of 3, as many B&Bs do not welcome children. Upon arrival at Kilmalyn, the hosts greeted us with a warm welcome, along with their adorable young daughter, who wanted to help carry our bags to our room. My son (age 7) instantly felt "at home", as this is a very child-friendly guest house- he loved visiting the hens, the rabbit, and playing with the little girl- instant friends!

Our room was lovely and very comfortable- very tastefully decorated with a wonderful modern bathroom. The home-made shortbread in the room was a real treat! Even though there are 3 (very well-behaved) children living in the house, it was very peaceful and quiet- we all slept very soundly. We loved having various options for breakfast- it was absolutely delicious- fresh eggs from the hens and home-made berry jam, I only wish we could have stayed longer at this truly delightful guest house!

i stayed at this bb with my parents and we had a lovely family room. norman and jillian have decorated the whole house and especially the guest rooms with excellent taste (you have to see the amazing bathroom). just a few miles away from fort william it is the right place to stay at when you're in that area. breakfast was delicious too! you should definitely visit this bb, as it is one of the best in scotland!

Our hosts were friendly, attentitive, knowledgeable and cooked a great breakfast. Although on the outskirts of Corpach, the B & B is very accessible to all the sights in the Fort Williams area.

The owners of this B&B were nice, very friendly and helpful. It looks like a normal farm house from outside but when you enter the rooms, they are spacious and with elegant deco. The rooms were clean and there were homemade scottish shortbread welcoming you in the room. The house is located on a road en-route to Fort William, providing good access to Fort Williams and Ben Nevis. The breakfast room was cozy.
