Description: Open since 1995, the simple cooking and warm, friendly atmosphere has allowed The Mustard Seed to become one of Inverness’s favourite restaurants. The Location on the banks of the River Ness in a converted church building is simply stunning and helps create the wonderful ambience. The transformation from disused church to restaurant created a unique space; with a double-height ceiling and magnificent open log fire. Many of the original period features were retained and combined with a mix of natural and modern finishes. The addition of the terrace on the top floor allows alfresco dining and uninterrupted views of the River, another amazing asset for the restaurant.

We visited the Mustard Seed on a Thu evening and it was packed!!!! We had a 10 min wait to be seated and we were the lucky ones. It was highly recommended by the owner of our B&B and we were not disappointed. The food was good (scottish with a new age twist), desserts were excellent, but most of all, the ambience and decor were very nice - chic and modern. Its not a cheap dinner though. We went with our kids and it was no problem. My wife has a food allergy and they were able to cater to that as well. Despite being full, we enjoyed the service. Their bar selection and wine list is extensive. They even had a children's menu. Overall, a must do in Inverness. They have a sister restaurant across the river called the kitchen - that was packed too. We went there first but couldnt get a table!!!!

book at last minute on a saturday so only had the choice of 5.30 or 9.30 and picked the latter with hindsight we should have gone earlier as the deal was much better and there were only 2 specials left as it must have been a very busy night. having said that the service was good and so was the food. i went for one of the specials as i wasnt too hungry that late which was a veg stir fry (not to my usual taste) with honey and soy and it was delicious. my partner went for the chicken from the main menu and it also looked lovely. she then had the fresh strawberry cheesecake which was devine let down only by the slices of the tiniest fresh strawberries as garnish - there were many big fresh strawberries around this weekend all local so that was a bit of a let down. but then again maybe by 10.30 it was all they had left.

I booked a table here a month in advance requesting a view of the river. Our table turned out to be very cramped in the corner on the 2nd floor, with no view as requested. Our starters were brought before our drinks, which we had to request and were finally brought with an apology.

The quality of the food overall was good however the service was very poor and we felt ignored. This was typified when our plates from the main course were left for at least 15 minutes after we finished. We were looking forward to desserts and coffees etc, but decided not to bother. The meal was for a special occasion and the evening was spoilt because of the bad service.

Even after complaining there was no explanation from the managment. We had high expectations from this restaurant but wished we'd booked somewhere else for our night in Inverness.
