John’s advice on local eateries was spot-on, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. My travel companion claims theirs was the best haggis he’s ever sampled. Personally, I couldn’t comment, but the porridge was quite nice and was just the thing to keep me warm throughout the cold, wet day that followed.
Most importantly (and seldom mentioned in reviews) the ensuite facilities included a real-live well-working shower! Good water pressure, steamy water at high temperatures…it’s a rare and wonderful thing, and much appreciated after a day walking ruins and sailing the Loch.
Perfect location near the city center, walking distance to wonderful restaurants, shopping, the bus and train stations.
If you can secure a room here, do.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in May and I cannot say enough about this place- it is truly wonderful. John went above and beyond every step of the way: super friendly, accommodating, helpful and truly a pleasure to talk to! He helped us find restaurants, book and modify our reservations with a rental car, and recommended local sights. We booked a family room and it was excellent. The room and ensuite bathroom are large by European standards, newly remodeled with lovely furnishings and extremely clean. This B&B also has a large sitting area on the second floor for guests, which is very nice. The breakfast is fantastic (try the Haggis!). While we were unable to meet Elizabeth, as she was recovering from a medical procedure, the breakfast lady was a wonderful, energetic spitfire of a woman who genuinely cared about the guests. This was one of the best accommodations I have ever stayed in and I remain truly grateful for the experience. We will be back in the future!! Thank you John and Liz for showing us the definition of Highland hospitality!!

Room Tip: Bring a mask if you need the dark to sleep in the summer!

We stayed four nights at Ardconnel house in Inverness during out two week stay in Scotland. I can't say enough good about it. We arrived a day early due to the cancellation of our train trip to Aberdeen (heavy rains and washed out tracks). I called John at Ardconnel from the train station and they were booked up, but said he would try to find a place (for the 5 of us) and call me back. He called back and found a location for us for the first night. It was really outstanding since I did not know what to do - and who to call. We moved over to Ardconnel the next day and John and Elizabeth greated us and made us feel right at home. The rooms are wonderful and quiet. The beds are very comfortable. We had a triple (double and twin) with ensuite bathroom. Our parents had a double one flight up. They had a lovely sitting room that we would meet in before breakfast or before our evenings out for dinner. Very close to the main part of town and the train/bus station.

Breakfast was the best of anywhere we stayed for two weeks. Fresh fruit and scones, juice and muffins, then a cooked breakfast. Sue was an added perk. She brought our breakfast to us and made our mornings fun. My son (8 years old) thought she was great and missed here when we left. Would highly recommend and we will stay here next trip

We stayed with John and Elizabeth in May before the last 10 days of our walk to John o'Groats from Lands End. They were wonderful, helpful hosts and their B&B is beautiful and comfortable. We were happy to be able to stay another night with them on our way home after finishing our walk.
Breakfast was fabulous too!

John and Elizabeth run a comforting and comfortable inn. The well-located so close to the center of Inverness, the inn was just a quick walk, albeit UP a lot of stairs from the train station. We were warmly welcomed by John and given all the information we could absorb about how to best discover his city including the pleasant activities of walking, exploring, and eating, as well as the more mundane task of seeing after a family's load of laundry. We took up two suggestions for evening meals, both of which worked out beautifully. In the rooms, we were quickly settled into a set of well-configured rooms. With modern windows which allowed us to bring in as much fresh air as we desired, we easily regulated the room climate. Everything we needed was at our finger tips. The small bathrooms were efficient. You might just want to be warned that the electronic pump for the shower is very loud and there is little possibility of one person getting a little extra sleep while the other showers. Still noise seemed to stay contained in each room and the night's sleep was only interrupted by wind when we forgot to close the windows.

I must mention both the wonderful breakfast and charming Elizabeth who oversees the breakfast room. Clearly Elizabeth has hosted countless folks in her lovely breakfast room and inn. Do try the smoked haddock! A lovely fresh fruit salad headlines the pastry buffet, and all that one might expect from a grilled breakfast is right there. Even white bread can come on request, much to the delight of my picky family member. But really, I must mention this smoked haddock again. Coupled with a poached egg and grilled tomato, it is light and fresh and lovely. Others at my table seemed to head for the traditionally light options, but I think I tricked them all by selecting the best and lightest of the menu. Do give it a try!

If ever back in Inverness, we'll start with John and Elizabeth and their lovely inn.

I was so happy to finally stay at Ardconnel House as on past trips was unable to as it was always booked. You couldn't find nicer people than John and Elizabeth - they were so kind and helpful. I arrived in a torrential downpour and after lugging my suitcase from the station they sat me down and gave me a loverly cup of tea and biscuits. The single room was very comfortable and the breakfasts really delicious. Would definitely stay there again.
