“Good location but nothing else.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Let's start with the positives: the location is great and a short walk to the sites and restaurants of Inverness. I think that's about where it all ends.
The beds were fine, but overall, the hotel looks like it's about to fall apart - with worn carpets and peeling paint. More importantly, there is no internet available in the rooms. Supposedly, internet is available in the public areas, however, it's beyond slow (circa 1994 dial-up slow) and useless.

First of all let me say that we definitely recommend this hotel. The price-quality ratio is satisfactory, the room was big and the breakfast good. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful, especially the female employees who extra-nice, ready to help with tips and info, or simply to chat about everything.
What we would have loved being better: first of all the restaurant service. It was really slow and the waitress believed the once she dropped the dishes on our table her job was over. We were also the only client for the evening, so we had trouble to be served and once I even had to go and look for her at the bar. Also the food was subpar and too expensive. Last thing we didn't like: I booked, thru booking.com, using an Amex. Since it was not ok to pay with that the reception guy asked a different card. Problem is he asked before dinner...and after dinner....and when I was going up to the room to actually get the different card. I suppose he was afraid we were going to run during the night.

When we booked through an internet site, we didn't expect to get allocated a sumptuous room. We weren't, but the room we got was clean and comfortable, albeit on the top floor (no lift) with no view, a TV on top of a wardrobe, no Wifi despite being told there was (it is available in the bar), and a chair would have been nice.
No problem parking - plenty of spaces, and a short walk into town. No traffic noise at night ( we had a room at the back). Staff very friendly and welcoming.
We booked an evening meal, which isn't the cheapest option. My venison was well cooked, but the Good Lady Wife had a disaster with the poached haddock - hard, no seasoning or sauce, even the poached egg was hard. We told the waitress ("I'll let them know") and later the duty manager ("That's unfortunate") - when a simple "sorry" would have calmed things down. The meal itself took over 45 minutes to arrive, despite the restaurant only being half full.
Breakfast was nice - good choice of cereals and fruit, and a hot breakfast cooked to order (note to evening chef - speak to the breakfast chef about how to poach eggs!).

We got bumped from the Royal Highlands Hotel who tend to always overbook, they sent us to a dirtbag hotel and when we refused our luck changed to even better The Beaufort 2 nights ago. Lovely warm welcome from Terry, Lovely staff the whole time, large and clean room with a lovely bath and shower. The food was by far the best we have had so far on our trip and we would love to return again.

Room Tip: Most hotels are old but it looked like most of the rooms were great

We had reservations with a larger hotel outside train station, they over booked and sent us to a small hotel but we did not like it. This hotel was friendly and have done anything they can to "make up" for our lousy day!
Thanks for helping and you have a friendly staff.

Beautiful room, stunning big Spa bath and a comfy bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The big dissapointment came in the resteraunt, my partner and I ordered the Rib eye steak, not cheap but we like them. When they were delivered to the table, my partner told me that these are rumps not rib eye. She being a Chef I took her at her word and spoke to the waiter who confirmed that yes they are as they had "problems with the delivery of meat that week". The rump was fine and we enjoyed our meal. It was not until we had payed and left we discovered to our dismay that we had still been charged for Rib eye, for a hotel charging £175 for the room for the night I just expected more attention detail.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, having booked just a few days before arrival. We were given a suite, which was certainly very clean and tastefully decorated. However, the room perhaps wasn't as large as we would have liked and the view was dissapointing, over looking a car park. The en-suite was adequate, and again, the cleanliness could not be faulted. However, we did not have any hot water for showering on the first morning which was really displeasing.
Dinner was served in the hotel and we were tempted to go in for dinner but there was no menu available in the bedroom and so, unsure as to the kind of food/prices we walked into town instead. It was also stated that room service was available but again, with no menu, I was unsure as to what I could order should I have been tempted.
The breakfast was lovely, with good, quick service. Cereal and yogurts were available for self-service and a cooked breakfast or fish was available to order. The cooked breakfast was tasty and beans, black pudding and mushrooms could be ordered at no extra cost.
Staff were friendly and welcoming and they even carried my suitcase up to the suite. On check out, we were able to leave our bags behind the reception for an hour or so whilst we went for a walk along the river.
The hotel itself is about a ten minute walk into the city centre which was handy. Overall we enjoyed our stay, however felt that it was expensive although we have to take into account we did book fairly last minute.
