Really enjoyed a family dinner at the Tomich hotel last Friday. Great freshly cooked food in a lovely example if a Victorian hunting lodge. Good choice of menu with chefs specials also available. Pleasant atmosphere, very friendly staff, dogs and children very welcome not to be missed- well worth a drive if in the area .

Staying in Cannich for a long weekend, we drove to Tomich to try the Restaurant in the Tomich Hotel. We have been surprisingly pleased with the welcoming of the owner, the quality of the food and the warm atmosphere. The menu seems to change very often regarding the season, meaning that the ingredients are fresh and the meals home-made. We have had excellent starters (goat cheese salad and salmon), a delicious soup of the day and some chicken for the main meal. Nice selection of bee as well. All in all we were very pleased and thought it was a great quality-price ratio. We will definitely go there again if we are in the region.

Tomich is a 'conservation village' and as such is obviously cared for with mock gas lamps casting a romantic glow. A small group of cows was milling around the entrance to the village when we arrived (Not near the inn!) but set the scene for a lovely old fashioned evening. We had drinks in a comfy lounge with roaring fire and books and our meal in a candle lit restaurant. No one else was in but it was cosy and comfortable.
I had carrot and coriander soup with parsnip chips followed by venison casserole. All delicious and quite filling.
This is perhaps not the place for a quick snack but is certainly suited to evening dining.
We paid £87.45 for two starters and two mains, two/three (?) glasses of wine, one beer.

We had dinner in the dining room from the a la carte menu. The food was good but not spectacular and we thought it a bit expensive - but then getting supplies in the Highlands is probably an expensive business. The menu was short and changed regularly - a good sign - and the vegetables were nicely cooked and seasonal. I could have done without 3 different sorts of potato, though, and would advise others to avoid the pork medallions with green peppercorn sauce unless they enjoy a really burning sensation in the mouth! But it was nice to have had a pleasant meal without having to travel and the atmosphere was nice and the staff friendly. So 4 stars instead of 3.

We were staying at the lodges locally and popped in on what is an extremely busy time with the local show nearby. The owner was very accommodating and we made our reservation for later that evening for 5. We were greated and escorted to our table in the bar, nice wee bar all tables were full of diners. The stafff were really friendly and the food was excellent! So good in fact the next night we went back again this time we had our dinner in the dining room private dining in fact. It was great it was our 15th Wedding Anniversary so it could not have been better. Highly recommend :-)
