Description: For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

We stayed at the Premier Inn just down the road so it was a short walk to this restaurant. First time we have tried this place although we have peeked in the windows before. All the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely - very romantic. My husband had a scallop starter which was cooked perfectly. He used to be a scallop diver by profession so he is particular about his scallops. I had the ribeye steak and he had venison. Both were fabulous! Would highly recommend this place and you can sure we will be back when we are next in Inverness!

We have eaten here many times (romantic evenings, office Christmas dinners, family lunches, nights out with friends etc.), and most recently last night for a double birthday dinner celebration plus Glasgow friends visiting. I pre-warned our friends that service can sometimes be a bit slow but that it's worth the wait. We had a relaxing evening with Alfie popping his head out of the kitchen to ask if we minded delaying confirming our food order (the wine and lovely fresh bread had arrived pronto) 5 minutes as things were a bit hectic in the tiny kitchen (it was busy - surely the best indication of quality) - we didn't mind at all as we could see the hard work being put in and the delicious plates coming out and we were there for a relaxing evening - not for a quick feed... The complimentary bowls of whitebait and olives were an appreciated 'thank you' for our patience and our starters came pretty soon after we had demolished those. Best scallops we have ever had, lovely mackerel and duck egg; the mains were delicious too (Steaks for 2 of us, a Sea Bass and a Halibut special) but the whitebait and olives (and the size of the portions) meant we had to forego the (previously delicious) pavlova unfortunately as we were too full. Our Glasgow friends were very impressed. Over the years, the service has definitely improved (time wise - RHR has always been faultless in terms of low key enquiries as to our satisfaction and the quality of ingredients and dishes) through, I thought, an increase in staff numbers and a slight decrease in the number of covers. Ignore the negative reviews (I always look at those and laugh when you see how many 'terribles' the reviewers have posted) - relax, enjoy the intimacy of the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff - if my friends and I rate the scallops over those served at Rogano in Glasgow, that's enough of a recommendation...

See title, nuff said. Top tip, dine earlier as it was really quiet then at 18:00. Very good service and we were very pleased when the chef/owner came to ask personally if we were happy with everything after the meal-a nice touch and very brave!

Lovely little restaurant and great meal, they serve a high quality menu with high quality produce! Definitely above average for restaurants in Inverness and the evening was made all the more special by the interest of the staff and owner. There is no doubt about them ensuring that everything is just right - the attention to detail in all aspects was excellent.

Booked late but fortunately secured a table. Bijou, great atmosphere, excellent service. Food & wine fantastic, unhurried service and relaxed staff! A chat with the chef whom wanted to know if all was well while we were in between courses.

Great place, really enjoyed our visit.
