Description: For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

“Little Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

This restaurant is quite small (28 seats) but it packs a lovely punch. We both had the seafood starter, I followed with the days special, surf & turf. This was an 8oz rump steak with king prawns and scallops with chpped potatoes. My wife opted for the sea bream. All the dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. As I said, it is a small restaurant, so I would advise that you book in advance to avoid disappointment. The staff were attentive and very friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

“Enjoyable experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

I went early evening during the week and the place was quiet. . So enjoyed great unhurried service. The food was excellent and well presented. I would have liked to see early evening offers like other restaurants nearby....but they do a mussels special on a Wednesday. Highly recommended.

“Another Highland gem.”

Another restaurant in Inverness that is well worth checking out. Really good food using local ingredients. Perhaps they could work on the presentation a little, but certainly no complains about the flavours, textures or the service.

“Most disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

So looking forward to eating here from reading the reviews. What a disappointment. Lovely table setting, nice decor and everything looked clean. Waiter very attentive and pleasant. Food looked wonderful. And that is where the positives stop. Starters were underseasoned, main dishes had components that were either luke warm or seriously microwaved hot. Plates were cold. "Jus" was gravy granules which had not dissolved. Linguine undercooked and clarted in a "chevril" sauce that any fish flavour could not be detected. We were asked was everything okay and we subtly hinted that is was not.....food half finished should have been a hint! Apology given ...end of. Would not recommend and i certainly would not go back. Oh....and for what we were given....the price was extortionist! Visitors...beware....dont go here.....try contrast, rocpool, or macgonagals or urquharts even.

“Excellent service and food, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

Second time here. Excellent meal, great friendly service, chef/owner is friendly and it is great to be able to see him and his assistants cooking. This is probably the best restaurant in Inverness, and will always go there in future when visiting there. Food was nice, the waitresses were very nice and friendly too.
