Description: For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

“Good”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

Booked for Easter Sunday (not usually open Sunday) so was quiet but plenty of patrons to make it comfortable.
Ably waited on by the hardworking waiter. Good that you can watch your food being prepared.
I enjoyed the main (Turbot), my partner a little disappointed by the Seabass having tried similar elsewhere in Inverness. Best selection of seafood on menu in town. Desserts quality.
Would recommend.

“Fabulous local restaurant”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We were a very mixed party of 8 with a variety of tastes and expectations but EVERYONE had a fantastic meal. The staff are excellent and the chef was extremely friendly even coming out of the (tiny) open kitchen to chat. The local fish was some of the best we've ever tasted and our group have travelled pretty extensively. We marvelled at the quality that came out of perhaps the smallest kitchen I've ever seen and we would all HIGHLY RECOMMEND the River House to anyone who enjoys excellent food and a friendly ambience.

“Amazing show . . .”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

My parents and I stopped in on a Friday evening and were lucky to get a table without a booking. First, the 7 or 8 tables were ably staffed by one waiter who was friendly and hard working. The chef was just as busy, and patrons can watch him since the kitchen is separated from the dining room by a small bar.

The bread was very fresh, tasty and moist. We had the fillet steak (black pudding and horse radish mash), sea bass and haddock risotto, and the chicken and chorizo. Extremely high quality. All three dishes were the perfect tenderness, and the flavours sat well together.

“lovely meal”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Arrived for an evening meal after the theatre. Menu didn't have a vegetarian option but the chef made a personal meal after chatting about flavours and foods I liked. A lovely meal, I would go again.

“A Little Gem”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Inverness was crowded - SNP conference. We were there for a short break and were struggling to find a table in the restaurants that had been recommended to us. We thought we would try the River House where we were able to book, although a little later than we had intended. The food was exceptionally good. I had the best steak I had had for a long time. The service was impeccable and as we had to wait for our table to be ready we were given a drink on the house. "Alfie", (aka Allan) the chef/owner came and had a chat with us after our meal. All in all a great evening, made even more amusing by the table of 8 SNP conference attendees spending ages quibbling with each other over who should pay what on the bill. And they would like to run the country!
If you are in Inverness don't miss this little gem of a restaurant.
