“Terrible service & sub standard rooms.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2009

Stayed one night on 30th May. We booked a deluxe non smoking room - and got neither. the only deluxe room left when we checked in was a smoking one - and I could not get past the door before wanting to throw up from the stench of the room. the staff offered no alternative - it was up to me to ask for another room. We ended up down grading to a standard room - offered no apology or anything to make up for the disruption to our stay. Bathroom was awful, tiny shower, almost no toiletries provided. no mini-bar of fridge in room. In room facilities were also not that of a supposed 4 star hotel. Bitterly disappointed with the service of the staff - when we asked at breakfast if we could sit in the conservatory, we got a resounding no - there were empty tables in the garden but we had to sit in the stuffy dining room. When checking out,. the receptionist could not look us in the face, ask if our visit was okay or even smile......dreadful.
No way should this hotel be No 4 in Inverness according to Trip Advisor

We only paid £100 for a double room here, and perhaps that's why we were stuck round the back of the hotel, looking out onto the aircon unit, and hearing its gentle whirr. I'm sure the plusher suites would be better, and had our room and bathroom been a little better I would have no problem recommending the place as everything else was fine and I preferred it over big brand, huge hotels.
We didn't have any specific problems with it, but it just didn't feel like a 4 star hotel from were we were. The bathroom was small and the fixtures were standard; the hotel provided soap and shower gel but nothing else.
Pros: The breakfast was good and had a long serving time, and the staff were very helpful. The location isn't right in the centre, but it's easy to get to when coming from the A9 and the taxi journey to the city centre cost under a fiver each way.

From arrival the service was fantastic, friendly and helpful. The hotel was undergoing renovations during our visit and the staff did their utmost to smooth out any problems resulting from this. The breakfasts were fantastic, the best hotel breakfast we have ever had.

The room was comfortable, spacious, clean and luxurious. The location was slightly out of the town centre but close enough, within a 15 minute walk. There is a health suite but we didn't make use of this during our stay.

We loved this hotel and would stay again when in inverness, it completed our holiday.

This has to be among my top favourite hotels, with soul aplenty. I especially love the conservatory style eating area where lovely bar meals are served. The hotel building wraps around a lovely garden with a putting green and is next door to a golf course. Our ground floor bedroom opened onto the garden with our own private patio with table and chairs. Dining room is elegant in the old style, but not quite so roomy and relaxing as the salubrious lounge area. Staff are very friendly and always smiling. Beds are super comfy. There is a nice quiet modestly sized leisure centre which looks out onto the garden. Hotel is out of the city centre is a lovely area, and ideal for motorists with its good car parking. Suitable in most parts for the wheelchair users. The only slight "gripe" I might have is the relative lack of toiletries in the bathroom and expensive wifi, but in virtually all respects I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel appears to have changed hands (again), but not to its detriment. The welcome was very friendly, the rooms comfortable and clean and the hotel restaurant served an excellent dinner.
Check out was ok, there was a delay while the receptionist found change for a departing guest but one of the hotel's more mature male members of staff was extremely friendly and defused any annoyance at the delay.
I will certainly be back

We only live about a mile from this hotel but have stayed there when it was part of the marriot - no complaints at that time. Fast forward to now - a re-launched hotel that is promoting it's new restaurant and doing it's best to attract locals in with an offer on meals.

well, to be honest, it was the worst meal that we have ever had. The food was very poor and at best would have been to the standard of a Motorway Cafe. The Scotch Broth was bland, to say the least. The Braised Venison had been braised to the point where you could have been eating anything and the desert had been microwaved to death.

The bar, however, is great. There is a good selection of wine and beer and there is a pianist to create a really nice atmosphere.

We filled in a customer comment sheet and emailed an amplificatiuon to the Restaurant manager. A week later we have not had a response.

Stay here by all means but go into town to eat. There are loads of quality restaurants in Inverness. DON'T EAT AT THE KINGSMILLS!!!

As General Manager of the hotel, I really appreciate feedback. I am extremly disappointed to read your feedback, over the last two months we have have over 200 non residents take up our conservatory promotional offer and have recieved many very positive comments. This is the first negative piece of feedback. I apologise that your expectations were not met and I will look in to this further and also your lack of response from the letter / e-mail sent to our restaurant manager. I will respond directly to you after concluding this investigation.

Thank You

Stayed at the Kingsmills Hotel for a weekend break and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff are extremely helpful - nothing was too much bother. The food was excellent. The rooms were very spacious and the beds very comfortable. Can't wait to return.
