“Disappointed”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

Well appointed room with friendly staff. Good setting. Although this may seem trivial, I was very disappointed to see that the shortbread in the room was made on England. No excuse for this as we have the very best made in the North. is Walkers and Danes. Also disappointed that in this day and age, guests were expected to pay for WIFI in rooms.

Hotel offered decent rooms above a sprawling reception-cum-lounge area. Wi-fi only available here, which is a bit of a pain these days, but was included in price. Adequate parking. Breakfast was nothing special, but service was prompt.

Booked into the Kingsmills hotel expecting good things then reality kicked in. Allocated room 121 on arrival but it wasn't ready so we had too wait then were given 201 instead. Reception staff were extremely helpful and polite. Made our way upstairs (the lift was a bit of a let down with the smashed glass) past the cobwebs in the circular staircase. The room was enormous but very tired and dated. Cleanish! Net curtains and bedding could have been better. The under lying issue we had was the room was too warm. We like the heat but at times it was unbearable. Someone had kindly put a fan in the room but it only moved the hot air around. The bar area was nice and bright however cleanliness was also a bit of an issue here as was the £4.95 for a SMALL glass of wine. The hotel itself was in a good location with plenty of places to eat around all within walking distance. Disappointed overall and certainly not a four star in our ratings. Many more places around offering better value. Oh and the entertainment from the park at 03.30am didn't help. Not the hotels fault but it didn't help with the weekend.

We stayed here in the newer building for one night on our honeymoon tour and the service was impeccable. The room was great and the bath room had a shower and a separate bath with we thought was great as most places in the uk have the shower in the bath. ( which we don't like)We had to get up at a crazy time to make our tour in glasgow and would have missed our included breakfast so the staff pack us a lunch. They were very nice. We would stay here again.

Recently stayed (may 2014) in this Hotel for 2 nights as part of a Scotland Tour.
Although there was no air conditioning, there was a large floor fan and it provided us with enough air to remain cool. Our only complaint was regarding the wifi - we had to sit in the lobby to use or pay - which for the present day is most unacceptable for the price of the rooms.
The rooms were nice sized and modern. Our breakfast and supper was provided as part of the package. Supper was good but slow in between courses. Breakfast was ok - same as we got every single day of the tour. The cook was frazzled on our 2nd morning and food was put out bit by bit.
Makes it difficult if you are on a schedule.
We were close to town although after a day of walking about we took a cab back - 5 pounds it cost. It is close enough to walk if you wanted to.

We were fortunate to get a nice room in the new section and we were told by some in our group who were in the old section that it was not so good. Our room was nice and the hotel has a certain charm with it's great location. Dinner was good but breakfast was a let down. Had to ask for eggs and coffee. Some people in our group did not get wake up calls that they had ordered. I asked for a cold beer at the bar and was given a hot one. For my next beer I explained to the barman that I don't like warm beer and I would like a very cold beer that is stored in the fridge and he told me he had a cold beer on tap. So I get one of them and it's warm beer. Some people like warm beer but I don't, particularly when I ask for very cold beer. All in all, it was okay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new section.
