We are having an extended holiday with our preschooler and I am writing about the accommodation we liked the most. Those not mentioned were not bad, just not memorable. Needless to say, this holiday entails early wake ups, busy days, early dinner and no night life.
We stayed two nights in this beautiful historic house, offering a luxury experience in extensive grounds, with an enormous walled garden and a short drive to the site of the battle of Culloden and to Inverness. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, including carrying our extensive luggage up multiple flights of stairs and doing so with humour and grace. The house does not have an elevator and we were on the top floor.
Our en-suite room was well appointed, elegant and comfortable. The house is furnished with antiques and rich in history. It is a place where you simply wish to linger, in the lounge, or bar or wandering the grounds. Their range of whiskey and Scottish gins is impressive by any measure.
Preparing for dinner we could here a piper in the distance, walking the grounds. The restaurant is outstanding, elegant in both design and cuisine. We dined in both nights and enjoyed an extensive breakfast menu. The food is simply delicious.
The staff are brilliant. Some have been with the hotel a long time and have a deep knowledge of the house and area. What surprised us the most was how skilled and easily they interacted with our four year old. They made us feel wonderfully welcome and comfortable.
The only down side was that of most heritage buildings, no air-conditioning in a room at the top of the house in an unseasonably hot July. This not withstanding, we would stay here again at the first opportunity - even in a hot July.
Thank you for a truly memorable stay.
