Where to being my praise of Culloden House...the setting is palatial with extensive lawns front and back, graced by an occasional deer. I spread my yoga mat in the private walled garden and left relaxed and inspired.

Our room (#14) was large and gracious with an equally large but contemporary bathroom. The front desk provided us with direction for a beautiful ~4 mile stroll to the Culloden Battlefield, with a great deal of the walk through Culloden Woods.

The kitchen team deserve kudos. They coaxed the best from a simple bowl of we've-just-arrived-and-we're-staving soup, to lavish breakfasts and one of the best duck dinners I've ever eaten.

The team at Culloden House is the best. Perpetually cheerful Nick was a delight. And charming Harvey gave us spot-on advice on what to do and where to eat in Inverness as well as sharing the hotel's history (do ask about the door to nowhere and the upstairs fireplace...).

Around 6:30pm, get yourself a wee dram of whisky from the well-stocked bar and take a seat outside for the evening piper. The perfect way to transition from tourist to laird and lady of your manor.

Recently stayed 4 nights at Culloden House in the main house (there is a second house with rooms to rent). I felt like I was living in Downton Abbey. The staff was very attentive and entertaining. The building was truly historic, built in the 1700's and still retained many of the architectural features. There was even a beautiful secret walled garden and pond on the premises. They also have a tennis court and croquet on the front lawn. Huge Scottish breakfasts were included in the daily fee. You can also order lunch and dinner for an additional charge. That said, if you are disabled, it would be very difficult to stay here as there are no elevators and many stairways to navigate. Also, the view from Room # 2 at the top of the main building is mostly blocked by an ancient wall feature. But, overall, we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

Room tip: No elevators, as this is a historic house, Not disabled-friendly. Room #2 has a blocked view from the window. Room #10 was very nice.

We stayed at the Culloden House for one night, and we enjoyed the experience of staying in such a beautiful and historic estate. The hotel is beautifully decorated to reflect its rich history, and the grounds are the perfect place to wander on a nice day. My very favorite part of the Culloden House was the Forbes Walled Garden, where I could easily have spent hours enjoying the thousands of blooms all around. Meals are also good--breakfast is included, but dinner is a pricey extra. As for the rooms, they were extremely comfortable (spacious rooms--even a standard--with good beds, large bathrooms, and luxury toiletries) but could use some changes. For instance, our room had a wardrobe that shook and creaked with each step we took. Once we determined that it would not fall on us, we were not as bothered, but it was still noticeable. We also found that the guest rooms and hallways smelled a bit musty--this is likely just a fact of life in an old estate, but it was definitely noticeable. With all of this in mind, I would still probably stay at the Culloden House again, as the service was good and the grounds were so peaceful and beautiful.

WOW! I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it was to stay at Culloden House. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome with Carl the Concierge parking our hire care and then assisting us with the bags. I felt like a princess. Our room was superb, four poster bed and giant bathroom with views overlooking the grounds. Culloden House is steeped in history with Bonnie Prince Charlie commanding the Battle of Culloden from this site. We had pre dinner drinks in the drawing room and then the most exquisite dinner ever in the dinning room, the food was to die for and the service superb. Whilst eating our dinner the bagpipes played just beneath the window we were sitting close to which I thought was a special treat for us but later found out that the piper pipes everyone into dinner at 7pm which made us both laugh when we found out. Our special thanks to Stephen Davies who is the General Manager/Director who made us feel most welcome and we enjoyed a friendly chat. Staying at Culloden House was a pinch you moment and I would highly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed.

Room tip: We stayed top floor at rear of house overlooking grounds. Lovely.
