“A Perfect Trip to Scottish Highlands”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

We just returned from our Spring Break trip, originating in Atlanta Ga and headed for Inverness Scotland. We were warned by all of our friends that traveling to part of the world in the first week of April was sheer madness. That was not important to us, our goal was to experience a far off land, with very few tourists, and to relax in a picturesque setting. We were rewarded with 4 days of crystal clear sunshine and cool temperatures - every bend in the road was a post card.

We flew into London on a Saturday morning, stayed 1 night in London (Marriott Park Lane - wonderful location and service)...then we took the Caledonian Sleeper train from London to Inverness. The train departs London at 8pm and arrives in Inverness at 8am. You have not lived until you have slept the night away on a night train in a surprisingly comfortable bed!

We then checked into this wonderful Scottish manor house called the Culloden House. It is just what you imagine that it would be, built a few hundred years ago and sits on beautiful grounds. The rooms were unique, cozy, and very Scottish Highland. The bar and restaurant were a nice place to unwind at the end of a day of sight seeing. (The bar was stocked with every type of Scotch that is distilled within the country!)

But I save the best for last. The service was incredible. The General Manager Steven made us feel as if we were staying at Downton Abbey...except everyone had a great sense of humor. We also had great fun at night in the lounge (by a roaring fire) with our fine footman, Noel...who was a complete hoot.

Luxury, history, and that wonderful Scottish sense of fun. We WILL go back to the Culloden House.

Sadly, after our four days of heaven at Culloden (and driving a rental car on the wrong side of the road!), we departed and headed back to the train station to catch the Caledonian Sleeper back to London, and back to the US.

The trip was absolutely perfect, and it was sad to leave such a lovely place and lovely people.

Culloden House made it all work perfectly!

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We were delighted that you chose the Highlands for your Spring break, the weather was fantastic which always helps the natural beauty of the local area.

Culloden excels because of its genuine, hard working team and we are delighted that we exceeded that expectation.

We hope to welcome you back in the future and Ill pass on your kind comments to all the team and especially Noel!

Kindest regards,

Stephen Davies, General Manager

Stayed at Culloden House Hotel for 2 nights which was booked for me as a surprise gift. It included breakfast as well. From the minute we drove up towards the hotel we had the Wow factor. The outside of the hotel looks awesome and the grounds are beautiful. Even the ducks walking across the grass made me smile.
The staff were very attentive, carrying our bags to our very spacious room. Even though the room was a Classic Room - which is one of their basic rooms - it was very big and contained a king size bed, 32 inch tv, trouser press, free wifi and the en suite had a bath with a shower over head.
No tea/coffee making facilities however, all we had to do was dial reception and within minutes they brought it straight to your room. And, according to my partner, the tea was the best tea he had ever drank!
Back to the staff - very friendly, couldn't do enough for you and offered you advice on places to eat etc.
The breakfast was out of this world. The black pudding is certainly the best I have ever tasted! And its all served to you - you do not have to get out of your seat!
The only reason I have marked 4 out of 5 is because the tiles in the bathroom had signs of mould, albeit slight, and there was a few parts of the wallpaper peeling in places. The toilet also required a bit of manual adjustment after flushing to assist the water to refill or the noise lasted for a good while. But all in all I would definitely return to this hotel in future.

I doubt there is a more splendid sense of arrival when staying at a Country House in Scotland!

Our Chef does source the best local ingredients and I agree that the Black Pudding is out of this World.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay and the team. We have actioned the points you raised and look forward to welcoming you back to hopefully a 5 star review!

Stayed at Culloden House for one night using an online voucher which included breakfast, a bottle of prosecco and chocolates in the room for Valentines weekend.
Every aspect of our stay was fantastic. We were warmly welcomed and showed up to our room which was spacious, tidy and with a gorgeous four poster bed. The bathroom was great too, with twin sinks and a large bath and shower. The home made chocolates were delicious and the prosecco of good quality.
We ate in the restaurant for dinner which served up some of the best food either of us had enjoyed for a long time with quality of service to match. We decided to have some whisky as a night cap and were shown a wide selection of fine malts of which to choose from. The very polite and knowledgeable porter/waiter talked us through the different ones and his recommendations were spot on.
Breakfast in the morning was also excellent, again with service to match.
The only bad part about our stay was that we had to leave after only one night! We will definitely be planning a return to Culloden House Hotel and it's scenic surroundings. Surely one of the best hotels of it's kind.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The best hotel I've ever stayed at. Lovely friendly staff, breakfasts are gorgeous and plenty of choice. Also the grounds are beautiful and quiet and the location was perfect. I didnt have dinner here during my stay as I was visiting friends but I can imagine it would have been ace.

Last week stayed at this lovely hotel. Our room was lovely, staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent, We enjoyed walking through the garden, spring flowers popping up. Hotel is well located for visits to Inverness, and the Culledon battlefields (both worth a visit). Would love to return and stay longer.

We stayed at Culloden House for a couple of nights recently and reckon it has to be one of the best hotels of its type in the area. The staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much bother, the rooms were well decorated and spacious with great views, and breakfast was perfect with a good choice and perfectly cooked. Added to all this the fact that, although the hotel was relatively quiet when we stayed, it was cosy and warm throughout our stay and there was an excellent choice of spirits, especially whisky, at the bar. All in all, the Highland welcome and atmosphere made it a home from home. We will definitely be returning when next visiting Inverness.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful, superbly led by Mr Murray MacLean.
We ate in the hotel one evening and the food can only be described as superb.

We intend to go back and take friends with us next time.
