My husband and I have a fasination on the history of Culloden, and the '46 rising. We decided to take the 450 mile trip to the area and were lucky enough to get rooms at Culloden House.
Arriving on Friday afternoon we were greeted by Murray at reception desk, offered tea and coffee before we had to fill in papaer work, which I was very grateful for. The suite was superb, We decided to eat in the restaurant that night. The meal was lovely and we were offered drinks with our meal from the bar as I don't like wine. Had fasinating conversation with the staff in the bar as we reading some local history books in the bar area. In our opinion the staff, ALL the staff couldn't have been more attentive to us. The House is amazing, the weather was perfect, sunshine and snow! Our whole stay was brilliant. We will definately recommend to our friends and hope to go back ourselves soon.

After reading previous trip advisor reviews, I visited Culloden House today and was not disappointed! Beautiful House, lovely decor, very friendly and helpful staff, plus one of the best Afternoon Teas I have had. Just a shame the house doesn't still own the expanse of land that I'm sure it did at one point.

Take a wonderful trip back in time and imagine yourself as the Laird and Lady of Culloden. We were lucky and had a wonderful suite where the fire was on waiting for our arrival. Stephen and all his staff were wonderful, they made you feel extremely welcome and nothing was a bother.
Our dog Coco enjoyed the extensive grounds to run about in, and joined us for a wee dram in the bar.
I realise this hotel is not in everyone's price range but a definite on an off-peak special.
Fort George which a 10min drive is worth a visit. We were told the Dolphins arrive between end of March to September.

Munro. Kilwinning

Room Tip: Room 15, fire doors could be quieter.

This is our second visit we were very happy to return after much communication we recieved our room had previously which we were very happy about. This time we opted for dinner bed and breakfast on one night. The breakfast was lovely only the young boy that served it ran out the room so fast we hardly had the chance to ask for accompliments.
When we finally got attentended to by the one of the more senior staff who knows his job he attended to us. Unfortunately by that time we had already ate half our breakfast.
One dinner the next night we came down and were welcomed into the room which was lovely. We sat down for dinner and where offered the wine menu. Unfortunately we do not drink wine and were not offered anything else. Approaching our main course we had to ask for some drinks as all we were offered was water. The food was lovely but it was not worth an extra £90 for this. I understand why the locals do not eat here. I have eaten in similar establishments and for the choice that was offered does not compared to what we had here and these establishments were 2aa rosette, and the menus were cheaper with more choice.
I do not wish to add a bad review to culloden house as it is so lovely, but I feel there could be many improvements. For example when we went to the bar after dinner there was no bar man. Some waiting staff came in and walked out and never noticed you. We finally recieved some attention and recieved another drink, then they left again. Where is the engaging with the customer, the banter with the bar man? This is our annivsary and we felt neglected. We would like to return but there has to be many improvements.

Thank you for your review, we always enjoy welcoming guests back to the hotel and delighted that you chose to return.

I was disappointed to read your comments regarding service and dinner, Culloden enjoys an excellent reputation locally and we have many local guests who dine with us, on the second day of your stay we had a table of 21 local people for lunch. 6 local people for afternoon Tea and 4 local people for dinner.

We were aware that you where in the bar but as you where enjoying some personal time on the sofa we chose not to disturb you but instead wait until you required something, as you rightly point out we did walk in and out quite a few times which was to see if you were both OK.

On check out we did check if you had enjoyed your stay and all was well, hopefully we will have the pleasure of your company in the future and normal ser4vice will be resumed.

Kind regards,

Stephen Davies, General Manager

Without doubt the warmest, most welcoming hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Felt as though we were guests in someone's home, not a hotel! My sister and I stayed for 2 nights while touring the highlands, and have never found it so difficult to move on from somewhere, and we are both seasoned travelers. The staff are just amazing, so friendly, helpful and hospitable - each and every one of them. The food was fabulous, the rooms were beautiful, warm, clean - exactly as you would expect of a Country House hotel, the photos online do not do it justice. We were lucky enough to receive a complimentary upgrade and we felt like royalty. Curling up each night next to our fireplace made traveling Scotland in the dead of winter worth every freezing moment. Thank you Culloden House team, for making our highlands experience flawless... we will be back and cannot wait to see you again soon!

Dear Patsy,

I am delighted you enjoyed the experience, whilst there may well be bigger and better hotels I doubt there is a hotel team as gifted and as committed as the team we have at Culloden. Their sole aim is to ensure you have a first class experience and we are all delighted that we delivered that.
