“Mercure Inverness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

Excellent reception service on arrival. Rooms clean and comfortable, unfortunately one room not ready - had to wait a further hour for access. Breakfast service prompt and friendly with varied menu available. Central location brilliant for shops, Eden Court and relaxing river walks. Also all dining and entertainment catered for within walking distance. Would always book this hotel for the Inverness area but perhaps would benefit from a fridge in the room.

Excellent staff throughout ~ efficient, friendly and helpful; splendid, spacious, clean bedrooms with view of River Ness to die for; car park on site; superb location in city centre but how disappointing that "Caledonian" has been dropped from its "new" name.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your kind review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much! My team will also be pleased that their efforts have been noticed and remarked upon.
Locally the Hotel will always be known as "The Old Caledonian" but ofiicially this name hasnt been used for many years.
I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Stayed at the Mercure in Inverness in July and found staff at hotel to be very friendly. One of the waitresses in the restaurant advised us of special deal where kids eat free. She also supplied us with local maps and information of the local points of interest. Use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and Gym are all free to guests.
When in Inverness, take the short 15 minute drive to Channonry point and stand on the beach and watch the dolphins.
For wildlife and stunning scenery take a drive down Loch ness and and go to Drumnadrochitt, turn right and venture into Glen Affric for the thrill of your life!
For all you beer lovers out there, be sure to visit the beer shop on Castle street, Inverness. This shop has over 250 bottled ales in stock and these are one's not avaialable in supermarkets-'fill your boots'.

Was here a number of nights during my two weeks assisting the new Asda store opening, the rooms i was in were all brilliant and the beds were hugely comfortable, and the receptionist was very pleasant and chatty, the barman however was exceptional, always willing to chat and even after i went away for a few days and came back he remembered my drink which not even my local does that well :)

Room cleanliness A**** very good, but general areas around like reception, toilets ect were not cleaned throughout the morning/afternoon... looked dirty. Staff in restaurant seemed quite grouchy, maybe under pressure as it was rather busy. Service was ok but not the most welcoming myself and my wife have experienced before in this hotel. I used to like staying here, but I feel it has gone downhill! Still a good location for people staying in the city centre if they don't mind some noise but not for those wanting a quite nights sleep during the weekend.

What would appear to be faulty wiring, two sockets weren't working correctly, the first fan we were given was missing the Earth pin on the plug, one of the light switches made a noise which may indicate a fault.
The fan which was missing the earth pin had been put in the room and plugged in when we were  out of the room, so it was on all night without the earth pin, if I hadn't had to charge my laptop it could have gone completely unnoticed. This fault could have resulted in the fan itself being fried beyond repair or even worse a fire!
Some light fittings didn't match up with each other, which made the room look as if it had been done on the cheap.

Throughout Tuesday afternoon the fire alarm went off at lest three times for no apparent reason, according to the information booklet fire alarm tests are only carried out at 11am, and that if any other tests have been scheduled during the times of our stay that we would be informed, so it was particularly annoying.

On our first day we had lunch at the bar restaurant although the cheeseburger was adequate ( if lacking in flavour) the beef steak pie was completely unsatisfactory, not only was the beef tough but most wasn't beef, it was chunks of fat.

After looking at the Dinner menu we found it to be rather over priced and the prices on the room service menu we're even worse! Frankly it's no wonder the dinning room was almost empty, at those prices most people would rather go somewhere else. Although the quality of the food was excellent and to a high standard, we felt the prices made the food far less appealing.Luckily there were many restaurants near by, which were far more economical and with the same quality of food!

In regards to our  actual evening meal at the Main Restaurant , our starters were wonderful (although the duck salad had very little duck) and although the belly of pork was very nice, I broke a tooth on the crackling ! This was most unsatisfactory, and combined with all of our other complaints has ensured we shall never be staying with you again, nor shall we be recommending this hotel to anyone.

We have been coming to this hotel for over five years, this is the first time we have stayed at the hotel since it has become the Mercure, and frankly the the quality of the hotel has severely decreased since it has changed hands.

Although we found the dramatic difference in quality shocking, we must give some praise to your staff which were all very helpful and attentive. Also the view from the room was excellent.

As we checked out of the hotel we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay, instead we had a debate over our bill, we had been charged for a phone call which we never made. After some time we were given a replacement bill with the phone call charge removed, although this problem was resolved, it was an inconvenience.

On our second day we had finished our box of hankies (which were more like sand paper) and the dispenser wasn't refilled until our last day. Yet again your services have left a lot to be desired for.

One of the light switches beside my bed made a buzzing sound when it was on, this may indicate a fault.

When we first entered the bathroom we had shower gel, shampoo and soap, we had used all of these but they were never replaced.
