“Excellent Hogmany package”
Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

Had a fantastic 3 nights over Hogmany. Owners take a very active role in the running of the hotel, and this leads to fantastic customer service from the staff. Could not fault any of the food, it was lovely, both breakfast and dinner...

Only one tiny negative, and that was with the doors to the room and ensuite, which were very low and awkwardly shaped for someone of 6' 5".....

Will definitely go back...

The team and I are delighted you enjoyed yourselves over Hogmanay. Your comments have given us a great lift - thank you.
Sorry about the doors but 6'5" is a good bit above average!!

My fiance and I stayed here for a night while attending a wedding elsewhere in Inverness. Our room was beautiful, spacious, clean and had a gorgeous view of the river (Room 143). We had a delicious breakfast the next morning and the waitress was pleasant and efficient.
However, my main complaint would be the Receptionist who had no customer service skills and was far from welcoming. On our arrival I asked could we check in; the phone then rang and she answered it, completely ignoring us and left us standing there for 5mins. She gave us no information as to where our room was. On departure, the same woman was glued to the computer as I approached and continued to look at the computer as I stood there and waited for her attention. She completely brings the reputation of the hotel down and could do with extremely improving her attitude and customer service skills towards guests.

Many thanks indeed for taking the trouble to write about our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed the comfort of the facilities and breakfast we offer. However, i am terribly sorry about how it appears your arrival and departure were handled. The receptionist concerned has been spoken to. She recalls your visit and claims she did excuse herself to you when the phone rang and did tell you where your room was located. She is a very diligent employee in every other aspect and I have stressed on her the importance of warmly receiving guests at the reception desk. She is equally apologetic, meant no disrespect, and has assured me of an extra effort to improve this aspect of her reception work. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

We've stayed at the Waterside for the past 5 weeks including over the busy Xmas period.... Can honestly say the service and hospitality we have received has been fantastic... Nothing is too much trouble for Helen (reception supervisor) or Mark (bar manager) they have both provided us with everything needed for a comfy stay and thanks to Helen a good deal which was within our budget.
I've stayed in 3 different rooms and all have been lovely, comfy beds, new TV's and Wi-fi.. Not much more you could ask...
The food is of high quality and a pint in front of the open fire must be tried... And maybe a wee dram of whiskey!
We will definitely return and would recommend the Waterside Hotel to anyone without hesitation.

Just back from a three night Hogmanay special break. What can I say? It was truly wonderful, we had a room on the 2nd floor in the felstead townhouse next door. The food was absolutely tremendous, breakfast was delicious, the three dinners we had were super, top quality menus with top quality service. The staff, the management truly have the customer at the forefront of their mind, well done to you all for providing such a wonderful enjoyable time.

We had a late lunch with the family on the 22nd December and were very happy with the food and the service. There was a little time spent whilst we awaited our table to be prepared, and perhaps the staff should have offered us a seat in the lounge area rather than have us stand in reception!

The meal was very well cooked and served and was extremely good value.

Our three year old grand-daughter was well catered for too!

We will certainly return

Have just returned from the Waterside Hotel and my partners works Christmas party night. This is our second visit to this hotel and I feel i have to give an honest review.
The Positives:
The room we were given was adequate, clean and comfortable but the shower is tiny and would really not be suitable for larger people.
The lounge area is pleasant and warm and has a good atmosphere.
The meal we were served as part of the party night deal was really good and served hot.
The service was good given that the staff were rushed off their feet(during the party night)
The Negatives:
The staff are mediocre at best, the receptionist whom I remembered from last year has a most unfortunate manner and does not try to engage with quests nor make any eye contact with them. She does the job and no more!!!!
The waitress at breakfast would be better suited to commanding prisoners,on entering the breakfast room she barely gave us time to sit down before demanding to know what we wanted to eat and if we would be having anything form the buffet. We hadn't even had time to look at the menu!! Her people skills are simply awful.
I do appreciate that Sunday was a busy day for them but people are not automatons and need to be afforded a little courtesy and respect. This young lady has a way to go in customer service. She actually came across as very intimidating in her hurry to get us served and out of the way.
Again on checkout we met the dour receptionist who (again) made no eye contact or pleasantries and did not even raise her head about the reception desk.
I try to be fair when reviewing hotels and i have years of hotel experience myself so feel i am almost qualified to comment and in all honesty the staff at the Waterside are in need of some serious training. If their lack of customer service is down to their personalities well they need to look for new jobs,as they just didnt measure up this weekend.

We ate in the conservatory restaurant: "RefleXions" [sic], which was mostly empty during this twilight zone between the commercial kick-off of Christmas and the time when all the office parties would liven up this sort of place. All a bit depressing really!

The food was adequate but the waiter brought the wine to the table already opened. We then discovered that it was the wrong one but, by this time were too disheartened to comment.

i am really disappointed to learn your recent experience dining at The Waterside. twilight Zone may be a fair assessment. Sadly, in the industry and sometimes we are no different, when things are very quiet the focus dwindles. Shouldn't but can. However, fundamental good service service points should not be comprised. These obviously were.

Please email me at gm@thewatersideinverness.co.uk to tell me a little more (descriotion of waiter e.g. British or foreign, appearance) so that I can investigate this, correct for the future and try to make amends.
