“Car Parking a nightmare”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

This hotel is an old fashioned hotel which is furnished accordingly. Although clean and comfortable it seemed to be lacking atmosphere. To say the Car Parking is a nightmare is being kind. There are so few spaces that when I asked where else I could park, I was told to use the public multi-storey car park and pay £6 for 24 hours, not quite what I expected when I booked. However, if you come on the train, the hotel is next door so no need for taxis. The breakfast was done on a massive scale, although edible, not as tasty as it could have been. .II would not stay here again but would prefer to stay outside Inverness, perhaps on the Black Isle.

Thank you for taking time to review your stay and while we appreciate your concern about the car parking, but being in the heart of the City Centre of Inverness, we are fortunate that apart from 8 free car parking space that we have within the Station Square attached to the Hotel, the railway parking opposite to ours charge no parking fees between 8pm -7am and if you leave instructions with our Night Porter, he will happily do the needful in the morning. Then of course, is the Multi Storied car parking which is less than 4 mins walking distance away and which charges one of the most reasonable overnight parking in entire Scotland. We definitely hope to welcome you again over here.

If you are looking for sheer luxury this is not for you but if you want value with a taste of the past and central to amenities then this is the place. The grandeur has faded but we found the rooms clean and pleasant. Staff friendly and helpful with restaurant special offers/discount to help with budget. Breakfast very good. Restaurant food was also not bad but the leek and potato soup was tasteless and more akin to dishwater... Complementary tea and coffee plentiful. Parking maybe a problem as limited but I was lucky and always got a space.

Thank you for the kind review and we have noted your comment on the soup and our Executive Chef is personally looking into the matter as our Ash restaurant is not only known for the value and the portion size that it offers but also for the consistently fine quality of the items offered. We look forward to welcome you again.

My wife and I spent three nights in the Royal Highland from 9 October to 12 October. The hotel is in a great location for those arriving by train but parking could be a problem for those arriving by car. We booked a special rate that gave us two nights dinner bed and breakfast with a third night bed and breakfast included in the price of two. It was disappointing to have arrived at the hotel around 14:40 to be told that we would have to wait until 15:00 to check-in. It would have been more friendly to have checked to see if the room was ready. This seems to be the hotel policy however, as when 15;00 arrived there was a queue formed at reception of all those who had completed registration but not been given keys. Our room 207 was a very nice room, large and spacious with very good facilities for a short stay. Evening meals were taken in the hotels main restaurant ASH. There was a good choice of starters mains and desserts on the menu. Having paid for a half board option we had a cash allowance that we used to select from the main menu. There was no problem finding a good option for the money available. Breakfast service is buffet style and there is a very good selection of fruit juice cereal, continental and cooked to suit all tastes. One minor gripe I had was the Wifi was only free for 45 minutes and then beyond that it was £5 for the whole day. I found myself using the Wifi for roughly 50 -60 minutes so I had to change devices to complete my tasks. Overall this is a good three star standard hotel, Inverness is a lovely city and both are well worth a visit.

We stayed in this hotel for one night during our journey with Statesman Rail for the weekend 5th and 6th October. We were in room 308, which was practically in the attic and a bit on the small side, but was clean and comfortable. The hostess tray was very well supplied with biscuits, hot chocolate and bottled water. It was quite noisy during the night and was woken up by the noise of bottles being tipped at one stage. The breakfast we had on the Sunday was excellent - hot and plentiful - with a good variety of foods, served in a very elegant dining room. We can't fault the location as it was directly outside the station which was ideal after our long journey. I would recommend this hotel, although it is pricey but it does have a lot of character.

Last week I went to this hotel for 3 nights part of a tour group
Check in was alright. The room was fair, dimly lit, couldnt open a window, the curtains
would not close, the lower half of the window was bathroom type so no view.
Wanted a shower after travelling all day. As I am in my eighties I must have a rubber
mat in the shower. No mat so I went to reception, I asked but receptionist was cool, she
said she would make a note. Went for dinner at the given time 8.30
We were allocated 6 tables for a group of 35 So I was sat at a table with 5 total
strangers (not my cup of tea) The supervisor would not allow the waiters to get the
orders until all 35 were seated. Then the wait started 9.10 the starter soup arrived and it was cold (well warm) The vegetables with the main meal were partially cooked. Very poor
service and not the food I would have normally
Breakfast was a buffet affair All the cooked items were cold, you make your own tea, toast your own bread, not at all what I expected
After our daytime outing returned to my room(129) hoping for a shower still no rubber mat
Went down to the reception to complain and a young man said he would deal with it Went in
for dinner and the waiting etc was as bad as the night before I gave the breakfasts a miss after
the first morning and settled for cornflakes and toast The third night I loooked at the menu
and was not impressed I went back to my room and made a cup of tea and had a sandwich
I had bought earlier for the next day However there was finally a rubber mat
Not at all what I expected from this sort of hotel, and we were not on a cheap deal.

Just back from a great 3 day deal at the Royal Highland. Lovely hotel, grand staircase on entry. We had a lovely room (107), facing onto High Street but we didn't find it that noisy, there was a complimentary tray in room with bottles of still/sparkling water/various teas/coffees and hot chocolate/biscuits/candy sweets, topped up daily, lovely toiletries in bathroom too. Evening meal in Ash restaurant was excellent, great choice of food/wine/cocktails. Breakfast in a large bright room, great choices again- you could either have Full Scottish Breakfast or just Continental, staff all very helpful. Left luggage area which was great as we checked out at 1030 and transport wasn't until 1600. Hotel is in great location for bus/rail stations, shops, river walks.

Room Tip: Room 107 - refurbished room, spotless
