Had a 2 night break here, It was our second vist. We were given the same room overlooking the front. The room was old fashioned, had 3 large windows with thick drapes. It was clean, had a free safe, hospitallity tray and a selection of toiletries.
Piping hot water . Clean, comforatble bed. Breakfast was serve yourself buffet, the dining room is, again, old fashioned and typically Scottish.
Our favourite part of of our vist was relaxing with the newspapers and coffee in the foyer, very comfortable and always busy. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful.
Looking forward to a third break sometime

Room Tip: IF you stay at a weekend ask for a back room,,Front of house can be noisy

We spent last weekend at this hotel and had a lovely time. I had bought the deal last year and it had to be redeemed before 5th April but circumstances prevented us from being able to travel then. When I contacted the hotel to ask if the deal could be extended they fitted us in a month later which was great. Our room was excellent, we had the usual tea coffee tray but also had little extras; different teas, sparkly & still bottled water, hot chocolate (although we only had one and not 2) and little biscuits. The bathroom was a great size with complementary toiletries.
Our deal included a 2 course meal for 2, 2 cocktails and a bottle of wine and was thoroughly enjoyable. I had the chicken stuffed with haggis sitting on a bed of mash and surrounded by a beautiful sauce.
The staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast catered for everyone with hot and cold foods, various teas and coffees. Yes, the juice, coffees and such came from a machine and you had to make your own toast, so what!. I can't believe the feedback from some people, we had a lovely breakfast and the coffee was lovely, even if it did come from a machine. (all you had to do was walk over and press a button - no problem)
Such a welcoming, cosy place to stay with an olde worlde feel and a beautiful staircase.
I would definately go back to this hotel, better than the cold feeling of modern new hotels with much higher prices. We had to come on the train from Glasgow but the hotel is right next door and the only thing that spoiled the weekend was the rain but you cant control the weather (although some people would even blame a hotel for that)

Room Tip: I cant say about the rest of the rooms but ours was room 201 and looked over the entrance to the hot...

Noting negative to say about this lovingly restored hotel in the grand scale. Our room was large and comfortable. The bathroom had the largest tub I have ever seen in a hotel and was perfect for a great soak after walking about the town. Breakfast was very good and varied with something for everyone and dinner was delicious. We had the duck breast and it was perfectly done as were the vegetables. The hotel offers free WI-FI which is a real plus. The lobby and the grand staircase is beautiful and scattered around the hotel is artwork by Scottish artists.

Our stay here was very disappointing and we were glad it was for one night only.

We booked a Royal Room which is supposedly one of their premium rooms. It was so small that there was no room for even one armchair. To watch TV you had to sit on the bed. It did not have a bad view; it had no view at all as the station roof blocked out the window.

Breakfast was like eating in a canteen - everything was DIY.

The only member of staff we met was the receptionist and she seemed to relish being unable to help with any request. Highland hospitality was entirely lacking.

Even its excellent location next to the railway station will not tempt us to stay here again.

The staff was so friendly. The rooms were quaint and well appointed for the age of the hotel. The hotel is well placed for adventures in Inverness being central to shopping and a short walk to the water. I would highly recommend staying here for the history and the fun.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for non smoking if you don't want a smoking room

Stayed for a couple of nights on a Groupon - researching the area for a possible move. Can't fault the price - peanuts. Car parking is, yes, limited but there's a multi-storey not too far away once you've dropped the stuff off. If you have disabilities then an able-bodied driver is a must! Nice lobby - but I'm not a great hanger-round in lobbies! Nice staircase but not assisted by some awful corporate 'art' together with side-lobbies of 'thinking' art (i.e. the artist wanted to explain something - usually himself). It's a big station hotel from the era of steam and so is a bit tired in places. Room good (though small), bed good, bathroom good, dinner in Ash restaurant good.
BUT I shall never, ever forget what was, to me, the worst example of mechanised self-service breakfast I've ever eaten - sorry, left half-eaten. This was coach-tour-chicken-battery processing at its worst. A fruit juice machine, a coffee-tea machine, a packet cereal selection, a tub of congealing porridge which tasted burnt (i.e. burned during cooking then allowed to go cold), a range of the most appalling congealed and cold 'hot buffet' choices I can remember. Even the revolving toaster - usually efficient (in other places) - produced limp lukewarm toast.

The staff were fine although your chance of actually communicating with one of them was slim.

But maybe everyone had an off day and this slop wasn't typical? My advice, if the location is what you're after and the 'titanic stair' turns you on, is to give the breakfast canteen culture a miss and have breakfast in one of the numerous good eateries around (though maybe you'd have to fast a little longer on a Sunday)

Thank you for the review. In all our sales literature- both off and online- we mention that we offer an extensive Scottish Buffet Breakfast and, as can be seen from the reviews immediately before and after this, it can be seen that the majority of our users enjoy the same. However, we have taken note of all the points raised and shall certainly look into whichever area needs our attention. While apologising that we did not come upto your expectations this time, we would definitely like to welcome you again.

It's an excellent place with the best location in town; next to the train station. Our room was very clean and spacious; bathroom was lovely with nice toiletries. Breakfast buffet was a pleasant surprise as well.
