Owner description: This wide peaceful river flowing through the city of Inverness is great for fishing salmon.

I read a review of the River Ness asking where are the traders and snack food outlets. This walk does not have any as is all better for this. If you start in the city and walk upstream you walk along the river until you arrive at the islands. There are bridges from one side to island to island and eventually to the other side. A lovely level walk through woodland, with ducks and any other small birds keeping company. As you return to the town on the North side you get a fine view of the Castle. A lessor know walk along the River Ness is from the town on the North side of the river downstream to wards the Inverness Firth and the Merkinch Nature Park. Once you reach the Nature park take the footpath towards Clacknaharry where you will find the Caledonian Canal. Return to the town following the canal. Great walks from the centre of the town.

Iconic but tourists are not directed here, why ? Needs renewed focus and effort to encourage tourists to walk this fabulous river. Where are the traders, smaller snack/food outlets, other vibrant commercial enterprises that could attract more visitors ? Also there are insufficient benches and other seating places alongside the river for much valued contemplation. Anyone with vision should just go and look at other river cities in the UK to see how it's done. Inverness is sleep walking again, wake up city elders and celebrate one of your most valuable assets. Punting anyone ?

I'm always amazed at how fast the River Ness flows and how close it seems to flood - but it never does. Good fun going over the bridges, some of then quite bouncy. Some nice walks and a bit of a buzz in the city centre, also nice walks down by the islands.

This walk includes a lot of the main sights in Inverness. It isn't all together much, but it is a nice peaceful walk. We started at the bridge and walked down Castle Road. The first sight is Inverness Castle which you can't miss up the hill. Unfortunately the castle is closed to the public as it is a police station and prison.

Just keep walking down staying close to the river and after about 15 to 20 minutes you should come to a bridge that goes to the islands in the middle of the river. There are a series of interconnected islands that are light up nicely at night time.

Make your way over to the other side of the river and then start walking back. When almost back in the city you should see St Andrew’s Cathedral, a large red sandstone building, on your left. You can go inside the church free of charge.

Once again they aren’t amazing sights but it is a nice walk. It took us an hour walking slowly, going into the church etc.
