Owner description: Opened in 1993 by Prince Edward, Inverness Botanic Gardens, formerly Inverness Floral Hall & Gardens, are an oasis of calm and beauty within walking distance of the city centre. With each new season the outside gardens are an explosion of colour and texture, and borders are planted to demonstrate a wide variety of plants and growing conditions. The impressive glasshouses reveal the drama of plant diversity ranging from the tropical rainforests to arid, heat scorched desert.

“Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

We walked from the city centre to the gardens along the side of the river and through the islands, the signage could have been better but we had checked the location on the internet before we set off so knew where we were going. When we arrived we had tea, coffee and cakes in the cafe and although a large group had just placed a lunch order ahead of us, we were served very quickly and efficiently and enjoyed our refreshments on the decking overlooking the gardens.
The outside gardens themselves are quite compact but beautifully designed and colourful, with lots of spring flowers. The cactus house was delightful and intriguing with a wonderful range of specimens. The tropical house again had a wide variety of planting and was well laid out.
A surprisingly pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

“Little gem”

A surprising place on edge of Inverness ( by the Aquadome) Fantastic flower displays and hot house, then venture outside to the old walled garden. There is also a small coffee shop. Kids loved the Floral Hall.

“Wish I'd found this place years ago.....”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

The Floral Hall has been on the list to visit for years but has always been overlooked until now. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a beautiful walk around the enclosed gardens, which are very well laid out with plenty of places to sit and enjoy it all. The star attraction has to be the jungle greehouse though. I was blown away by the size of the fish in the Koi pond! The cactus greenhouse was also excellent. On top of this there is a huge selection of plants for sale at prices which beat out Simpsons and the other local garden centres (plus they are grown locally so much more likely to survive)

We also stopped for a tea and cakes at the Cobbs (chain) cafe within the centre which was very reasonable and offered outdoor seating in the garden, something I will be taking advantage of in the summer.

My wife and I were so pleased to find somewhere like this within walking distance where we can take a pushchair that we both bought a years membership then and there!

“Never been inside but the coffee shop is good”

Good stop for a freshly baked scone and a cuppa. They also do there lite bites. Next to Aquadome swimming pool so park in that car park and walk across.
