“Room description dishonest - NO wi-fi.”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

First of all our stay at Carisbrooke was OK except for a couple of very annoying incidents that marred our experience and meant we left with a very bad feeling.
The room description for this guest house clearly states that wi-fi is a feature and we booked here for that very reason. We needed wi-fi as it was essential we were able to connect with back home that night.
We arrived around 8pm and the front door was locked but I was able to contact the manager and he was a bit peeved that we had not contacted him to let him know we were arriving at that hour. I could see his point and apologised and we found our way to the room at the back of the guest house. This is where the main problem arose - despite following the printed instructions we were unable to connect to the wi-fi either in the main part of the guest house where we could get a signal or in our room where, because of the location out back, there was no signal whatsoever. Note that I am an electronic engineer and know my way around technology - we tried connecting with two iPhones, an iPad and a Sony tablet. There was simply no signal in our room.
The following morning the manager was dismissive and rude regarding the lack of wi-fi in the room and even stated the "you cannot get wi-fi out there". He would not even consider reducing the room charge. I overheard another guest also complaining of no wi-fi also.

The final problem was his inability to use the Visa card terminal - in the end we were charged through Booking.com as a "no show" and the charge was made a day later!

The room itself and breakfast were acceptable but BEWARE there is NO wi-fi available in the rooms at the rear of the gueast house despite the description to the contrary.

Room Tip: Room out the back beside the car park has NO Wi-Fi!

Thank you for a lovely stay. Room comfortable and clean and breakfast lovely. Very warm welcome. Due to car problems we were allowed to store our luggage all day. Very accommodating hosts friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you xx

Charlotte and Adrian were the perfect hosts for Sasha the Springer Spaniel and me. Welcoming and friendly - it was more like staying with friends than an overnight business stay. You really must try Adrian's poached eggs in the morning. ;-)

My husband and I have decided we are NOT quest house people after trying a number of them through out the UK so keep this in mind while reading the review. Inverness was not quite the charming town we were hoping for and I wish we'd skipped all together and gone out to a hotel near the lake or if that hadn't worked stayed at The Premier Inn (which would probably have been better than this quest house).
Also if this property had been priced at £60 I wouldn't be bothering with this review however at OVER £100 I feel compelled to write.
The Carisbrooke IS located perfectly to town and they do try to make it a bit more "upscale" and the rooms are very clean but the bed was miserable and the bed linens very polyester. However the worst bit was that we had a room in what they generously called a carport chalet. Which means we pulled the car up right in front of our room. In the states we'd call this a motor court motel and have stayed clear of it. Breakfast was just ok and the coffee is not their strong suit.
Again if it had been a whole lot cheaper I wouldn't have complained. I would have thought we got what we paid for.

My husband booked this though Booking.com and what a little gem it turned out to be. We arrived at 3pm and were greeted by the lovely Will.
He showed us to our room, insisted in taking our cases for us and then invited us to have a welcome drink on the patio. After driving for several hours this was simply divine. He gave us directions into the city centre, which is literally just across the road and over the foot bridge. He even recommended us a lovely restaurant and gave us some vouchers to get a drink with.
Our room was exceptionally clean, well maintained and with a spotless and very powerful hot shower.
There was a lounge which we were invited to make use of and free wifi.
Inverness was very small so there was not a great deal to see, however, it is a fantastic base to explore the surrounding areas. Will recommended we visit Fort George, which is an operational Army barracks, and Fort Augustus where there was a lovely little Abby.
Breakfast in the morning was plentiful, hot and delicious. The presentation was fantastic and again Will was on hand looking after our every need.
I can recommend this guest house with out any hesitation, it was like a home from home for us and extremely comfortable. There are plenty guest houses in the area however, Carisbrooke was the best choice for us, modern, spotless and fantastic location. We will return.

Third time staying here now and still very good. Previous bad reviews must have been a glitch pending new manager being appointed. Excellent choice for breakfast and cooked to order. Free wi fi is n added bonus

Room Tip: Get a room at rear overlooking car park. Rooms at front are on a busy road.

It's not a big place, 4 rooms I think but the layout suggests all the rooms are a decent size and the room I was allocated was great. It was a twin for single occupancy. Before I comment on that I have to say that the welcome from Will was impeccable, an introduction to the guest house; sky tv in the downstairs lounge - noted; up one flight of stairs to the room and this presented very well, clean, quiet, very comfy bed, nice seating, flat screen tv, and to be frank, a sensational ensuite bathroom. This was a great bedroom and ensuite, it was a delight. So as it was a quiet location I had a great night sleep and breakfast (included in my rate) was top quality. When I get a cooked breakfast in chain hotels I normally start planning from the outset how I cannot possibly finish the meal but have a fair crack at it and just leave a little inoffensive portion at the end. On this occasion the breakfast was tasty and beautifully presented and, all gone. The host was completely professional, great experience and I cannot commend this place highly enough. Great stay and perfect host.

Room Tip: kenneth street is busy with traffic but not noisy for tourists at night
