“It's a hoot! Good stuff.”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

When we visited on a late rainy Friday night, the food on offer was Thai. [Just read a review which said, they have moved to a Scottish one. Cannot confirm this. Their website still shows up the Thai one - http://www.hootananny.co.uk/thai-restaurant.html] . Not expecting much of a dinner after 9 pm, we found this place beginning to get packed for the live music at 9.30 pm. We just about managed a table. The seating is not huge but not small either. A decent size stage for the live performances every night of the week! The kitchen was open and the Thai food was lip-smackingly great. Hootananny also had a wide range of beers and scotch, all at a good fair prices. The ambiance is electric. Lot of local regulars and a handful of visitors. Perfect for a rainy Scottish night. Highly recommended.

“Hootananny all night”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

They have finally moved from a Thai menu to a very welcome and fitting Scottish menu. Amazing food, I had Beef and local ale pie which was just immense, washed down with Black Isle Blonde Lager, again immense. I had never tried a blonde lager and after a few I didn't ever want to go back to the regular lagers. Just hope some major brewers can pick up on this...

They had a 'big band experience' on the night I was there and what great entertainment they were. Live sax, trumpet, trombone and singing throughout.
Believe me me when I say I am more of a fan to the heavy rock which was being played live upstairs, but the ambience with the huge band and crowd in the main bar was mesmerising .

Lucky people who can call this place their regular

For me 5 huge stars, well done

“A fun evening”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

We didn't have dinner, but came for a drink and the music in the evening. They had a wonderful three piece band playing Scottish folk music, and it drew a good crowd for a weekday night. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the services was very good. We had a great time.

“Folk Music”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Very busy with a friendly atmosphere. Can't quite remember if it was April but Shiltrum (folk singers) were playing and we had a great evening. Excellent folk music, guitars, mandolins, bodhrans, banjos, bagpipes and Scotish/Irish folk songs.
