“An excellent curry house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

Visited this place with a group of colleagues and was not disappointed. We had booked in advance but being a Tuesday night it was not too busy. We all chose a curry dish but then just shared them and dipped into each one and they were all very good. Sides were good with different nans being shared too so we all got a taste of everything. Food was realy good and lots of it, we actually had to leave some! (I dont do that often!) Service was excellent with attentive staff but not overbearing. Finished with teas and coffees and even that was excellent, one of the better places to eat Good value for money too with two courses, a few beers and coffees for five of us just over £100.

“First time at this place but certainly not the last”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

422 miles for a curry you must be mad people said. Well it was 422 miles but not just for a curry, we were in Inverness to see a band and have RnR time.
After trawling the net for reviews of Inverness curry houses we decided upon the Rajah; looked up the menu online and thought yup sounds ok.
Arriving in Post Office Avenue I was taking a few photos when a group of chaps emerged from the restaurant and a totally random chap approaches me and asks "You going in there? We replied in the affirmative and he proceeds to sing the praises of the Rajah despite not being a great curry fan.
From outside the place looks a bit dismal, and as you descend the steps into the restaurant things don't improve much. Inside the decore is dated and the waiters could certainly lose the crappy days of the raj uniforms.
BUT wait, don't lose all hope it gets better. Seated by a very polite young man we were served drinks, water for my partner and Indian lager for myself. We ordered a starter apiece but shared as we do. Simple starters onion bhaji and samosa. Beautifully presented and yummy.
Not wanting to be overfaced we decided against rice with mains but ordered a naan bread each.
Mains were awesome, mine came in a deceptively deep balti pan. It didn't look like much but trust me there was loads, glad we didn't have the rice. The curries were superb, the chicken in mine had been grilled or tandoored on a skewer as you could see the skewer hole in the chunks of chicken.
The only downside was that the naan breads were a little sweet for our likeing but for overall service, quality and value for money I would give the Rajah an 8.5 out of 10

“classy Indian”

In this restaurant presentation is everything. It has a lovely atmosphere and is what seems to be one of if not the classiest Indian restaurant in Inverness.

“Tasteless Indian Food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

As bizarre as it may sound, whenever I travel to the UK I look forward to the Indian food. Due to the stronger currency and economy, Indian restaurants in the UK are able to import the highest in quality of ingredients and bring in the best chefs from India hence producing some of the finest Indian restaurants worldwide. Sadly the same compliment can’t be shared for the Rajah. The place was vibrant with nice deco but the service was poor and the food was disappointing. The meat such as beef was cooked separately and then added to the curry hence little flavour is absorbed into the meat and sadly the curry tasted like it came out of a can from ASDA. When we spoke to the manager she acknowledge that this is not how a curry should be prepared but that was extend of her willingness to entertain our complaints. There are other Indian restaurants within close proximity which you should try. The food was much better.

“Let's do the time warp!!....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

Just returned from Inverness after a few nights stopover and ate here. Reception was welcoming with little waiting for the table which we had prebooked in advance. The waiters were all very attentive albeit dressed in what looked like leftovers from a cruise
ship namely those braided epaulettes! The general ambience was fine but a wee touch
70's era. Our orders were taken quickly whilst our drinks had arrived. The starters were
ample and freshly cooked but the mains were not so. My wife had chicken chasni with
boiled rice which had large and plentiful chunks of chicken but I chose beef dopiaza
together with a plain nan bread. All food came on very hot plates and a hot plate was
provided to keep things warm. Now,the chicken was good and filling but I felt that the
texture of the beef suggested perhaps preboiling of the meat with the respective sauce added. The dopiaza tasted authentic but the beef could have broken a window (or two).
Overall I do not give this restasurant a rating as excellent because taste and texture are
paramount. I would pay a return visit but will not have the again ever!!
