Booked for a Pre -Theatre dinner approx 6 months ago - Service left a lot to be desired with our waitress seemingly of the opinion she was doing us a favour (grudgingly!!) as opposed to serving us. However, the food was acceptable enough so we didn't write it off. However, we recently decided to give it another go & book for an evening meal (on a Saturday). Sadly, the attitude of the person who answered the phone left a lot to be desired so we decided to go elsewhere. A pity really as Riva is in a prime location and is an attractive enough restaurant . The Management really need to get their staff sorted out with regards attitude to customers........

Recently ate here with my boyfriend. We made a reservation which was good as the restaurant was busy despite it being a Tuesday night.

The ambience is ok but feels very open and not intimate or private at all. The menu is extensive and the food was excellent but the atmosphere was lacking. Not friendly or warm at all. The wine list is good also.

I don't remember this as a fantastic evening because the lack of atmosphere and ambience let the excellent food, which was presented very well, down.

Excellent food, excellent menu, good wine list but poor atmosphere.

Not the largest menu or the cheapest....BUT..

I had the tagliatelle with beef strips accompanied by garlic bread - ABSOLUETELY AMAZING !! The best garlic break I've ever tasted.

My wife had chicken and polenta which she really enjoyed.

Service was ok, we had a lovely view of the river from the window table. Wine is quite pricey too. It was very busy which is also a good sign that it's popular with locals too.

Highly recommended - give this place a go.

We went to Riva on the 29th April 2009. We were greeted by an eastern European waitress whose first question was, “are you looking for the pizza place?” Maybe we didn’t look the type to be dining in such a fine restaurant, but I couldn’t remember seeing the Michelin stars on the window or maybe we looked stupid enough to have missed the sign on the door displaying ‘pizza upstairs’. We both decided to order the meatballs, which were very nice, but how the waitress served the plates to us was atrocious. It was no surprise it was the same waitress that had ‘welcomed’ us at the door. To drop two plates in front of your nose and walk off without saying anything is rude. Not even a bon appétit, buon appetito or smacznego! So, next time you go to Riva and they ask you, “are you looking for the pizza place” say “yes”.
