Enjoyed a great early evening meal here with the family before heading to the theatre. It's a shame the road along the river was closed again as it can be hard to find, particularly now it's a one way street. Persevere - it's well worth it when you finally get there. The food is outstanding.

In Inverness on business. Contrast was recommended by owner of B&B just down the road. Was quite late c.8:45 arriving and the restaurant was quite quiet.

First impressions: Decor slightly overdone, a bit busy and didn't quite hang together. But all in good nick and tidy. The interior screens are quite nice, creating a little more of a sense of several smaller rooms rather than a single large one.

Menu: Interesting, lots of interesting takes on things - I remember heritage beets being on there somewhere. I had "Whisky in the Jar" - hot-smoked salmon and smoked mussels with salad and Laphroig, there was some cheese involved as well. To be honest I didn't appreciate the reference until bizarrely 24 hours later the Thin Lizzy song came on the radio. However, the dish was good. Came in a Kilner jar (odd, but good) and when you opened it you practically got a puff of smoke the smokiness was so strong. Accompanied by a small cheese scone. Overall it hung together well and was interesting. The cheese was a bit mild to cope with the rest and the cucumber and tomato felt a bit like filler, but that didn't detract from a very good dish.

Main: Scottish Hill Lamb tagine with couscous and accompaniments (Water melon, fresh lemon and a spicy cream sauce that had a proper name that I can't recall). The meat was well cooked and the sauce rich and concentrated. The couscous was the larger size which I prefer.

Pudding: Rose Panacotta - panacotta ever so slightly over set - I would have gone for less gelatine to give more of a "wobble" but rose water a really nice flavour and interesting.

Decent glass of red wine - £35 probably about right.

Service: Not that good - and especially in contrast to the food. Just lacking refinement.

Would definitely go back and sample other dishes as I'm interested to see what this chef can do.

We took my wife's mother and her partner last year. We arrived early and enjoyed freshly made cocktails in the bar. The choice of food is great and there is something for everyone. Service is fantastic. Will be going again.

We came here for our anniversary dinner and left slightly disapointed. The service was quite slow and we were the only ones in for the first 40 mins or so.The food was fine in the taste department but the portions were very small. My cheeseboard had 3 pieces not much bigger than a dairylea triangle. The sevice wasnt great from the two girls that were working.I still dont no what the soup was that night. For a place with such a good reputation they didnt cover themselves in glory that night.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal last Saturday. Great food, all very well presented and very, very tasty. Four diners at my table, and we all had clean plates after all three courses. Only downside to the meal is that the coffee was very weak, and never came with any sweets/treats. Only downside to a very enjoyable night was Marionmorrall (see review below), who proceeded to complain about anything and everything in a very loud voice, and was unfortunately sat at a table next to mine. Well done to the very professional staff who remained patient with her throughout her rants and attended to all her very petty needs. Perhaps it is she that needs further training on people skills, and not the waiting staff! Or, perhaps because she is so good at communicating herself, she could train the staff on how to communicate, although I am not sure how effectively!
An excellent evening out, great food, great wine, in a lovely restaurant with very friendly staff. Will visit again, and will definitely recommend to friends.
