The Chieftain Hotel
Ranked #29 of 232 Inverness B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 18, 2010

We regulary go up to Inverness on busines on this occasion could not book any other hotel. We has to stay at the Chieftan. What a mistake. The hotel is on a main road and rundown from the outside. We had booked 2 rooms and the girl at reception intially gave us one of the family rooms, after finding our other room she showed us the locked door to access the bedrooms!!
The rooms were faded and someone has had an attempt at cleaning them. The mould in vthe bathroom and the shower cubilcle was disgusting and the toilet seat wasn't fitted properly. In my colleagues room the shower and the toilet made a loud banging noise when they were used which could be heard in the neighbouring rooms. In the double rooom the bed was as hard as a concrete and the noise from the dripping gutter outside a window that I couldn't close meant there was no sleep to be had.
We did not eat in the hotel, the dining room was not very inviting and the Sports bar adjoining was busy with people watching football. Breakfast iwas greasy and cheap and not very edible. and the coffe was instant!!
£100 per night for this uncomfortable vist in an unfriendly dirty hotel. Keep away!!

We recently stayed at the chieftain hotel but will definately not be returning. Our main issue was the basic cleanliness which you would expect in any hotel! Unfortunately this is not a main priority at this hotel, the window sills in the eating area were so dusty, the table beside the reception desk was thick with dust, the window panes on the doors were full of fingerprints, the walls were in need of a paint and so on, it really did lack cleanliness and a few cleaners would be recommended for this place! We have stayed in many hotels in inverness but couldnt get booked in any of our favourites for the weekend we went away so this is how we ended up staying at the chieftain. I would highly recommend the ramada jarvis in inverness which is spotless and great value! I will definately not be recommending the chieftain to anyone. To be fair the staff at the chieftain were all friendly and helpful so not got any issues with them, just the basic cleanliness which you would expect as prices are not exactly cheap for this hotel for what you get!!

this place is completely horrible. the bathrooms are disgusting and not very clean!! they had a live band on in the lounge til after 1am and in the other room there was a rave going on, with punters screaming outside in the early hours. the service was not up to much either. the windows didnt shut properly and let in a cold wind. all in all, i had a horrible stay and would urge anyone thinking of staying to think again!

we came there with a family of three and had room no 9. The bathroom is a pure joke. The shower base was broken and ineffectual repaired with silicone from the hardware store. The shower was duck-taped to the slide bar. Some hair from the previous guest could be found in here.
You will also find two windows in room No 9 which give you a very nice view to the main street. Outside, in between the two windows there is a bright light which schould lead unsuspecting people into the hotel. You can be shure that you have this bright light in the room for the whole night. And if this not enough you can not ony count the cars passing outside, you can even guess which brand of car is passing.

If your doctor told you that sleeping is bad for you, come and book room No 9. It is not cheap, but it will work.

This hotel is best avoided, the short walk from the centre is along a dual carriageway, overlooks the gas works and railway. The rooms are very basic and the door was missing from my shower cabinet and a shower curtain in its place. TV picture was a joke and the food awful, under the roll for my soup I found a piece of raw fish ( I had asked for a fish dish for the main) so no washing of hands in the kitchen.

It has a sports bar which means when football is on there are loads of men hanging around outside smoking. I heard from someone that they have got a licence for pole dancing.

My advice book somewhere else well in advance so you don't have to go there.

If peeling wall paper, shocking carpets in the corridors, avocado bathroom suite and rubber matresses are your thing you'll love this throw back to the 80's (the last time it was painted!)
Your money would be better spent on any number of other hotels in the area.

i hadnt booked this hotel, so i just walked in and thankfully they had a double room available for me and My Boyfriend. Price was excellcent, and room was fantastic. The bar was great and the staff very friendly. The Gentleman on Reception (dont know his name) was fantastic. we got excellent service from him, he was a gem. Check out was at 10am but he let us stay in the room till half eleven. Room was Spacious and very comfy, and has a dvd player included in the room. Great place recommend to anyone definatly staying again.
