Flying in? There's Ackergill Haven in the bay beyond Ackergill Tower
Only two miles out of Wick and Tesco and it looks like we're driving straight into the sea.
In winter, after annexe rebuild, not quite so attractive - but the location still - WOW
Past the re-built Sea Shore Cottage to Sea Otter's Front Door
Go in and turn left for the small living room.
New stove but new mantle shelf unaffordable so far.
But then look out through those french doors - and catch your breath!
When the tide's in - Hope I don't feel too seasick,!
Such amazing sunsets over the castle next door. At high tide every ripple in pink.
But maybe the tide's out when you arrive
Never mind - just check the tide clock and check when you'll next see the waves up close.
What a view from the kitchen window, with a millionaire's restored castle next door
Gather around the table for breakfast
Downstairs Bathroom. Big bath. High quality shower
Just inside the front door. Turn right instead of left and see the cosy downstairs double bedroom.
Stairs a bit steep - Never be allowed under new building regulations.
But worth the climb - Is that an Oyster Catcher? Where's that sea bird book?
Top of the stairs on the right. That double bed looks welcoming.
Top of the stairs turn left - for the room with two single beds and the same spectacular views
Beautiful, rugged shoreline
Fancy having virtually our own private beach
No time to watch TV - watching the waves is so much more relaxing
We just don't want to leave - Sea Otter - definitely unforgettable. Never mind - we'll be

“Breathtaking beauty!!”

Breathtaking beauty; however, the leak in the roof needs to be repaired. One can see the British bunkers used to observe German movements in WWII. The Sinclair Clan castle can be viewed from the patio. When the tide roles in, the waves lap underneath the second floor bedrooms, and make me feel one with the sea.

As soon as finances allow the whole roof and all the dormer windows of Sea Otter need to be replaced. Fortunately the leaks so far have not been severe enough for others to feed-back similar comments. If bookings continue at the present rate, it will not be so long before we can get on with the remaining repairs of what has since purchase over ten years ago been an almost insuportable money pit. At least in the long term the fantastic location makes the financial worries well worthwhile. At least we are at last slowly recovering from the cost of the total rebuild after a flash flood of what used to be a very badly built annexe into the now much appreciated Sea Shore Cottage. Positive comments much appreciated.

“It's the view - so very captivating”
Reviewed December 3, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Went for an extended weekend in November and had long cold nights and a sky teaming with stars. We arrived in the early evening to see the Milky Way shining above and the plough hung just over the horizon - I have never seen it so large and impressive - as if it had been arranged like a string of fairy lights.

The cottage was warm and cozy from the very start. It's homey and well quipped, though a couple of extra towels would be nice.

But really it is all about the views. You can look for hours, day and night. Photos can't really show you the real beauty and the air is so crisp and fine. No yellow pollution haze hovering over the horizon line, no light glow at night.

We were very lucky, saw many birds, a seal and the wonderful, playful otters. We had our fingers crossed that the northern lights might dance, but sadly did not (though comments in the visitor book say that others were lucky). So we will have to return and try again.

“Views so good you want to stay forever!”
Reviewed October 24, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We arrived after a 9 hour drive to be met by the most amazing views, simply breathtaking!

The cottage is cosy and warm in a lovely quiet hamlet, kitchen has everything you need (apart from beautiful views of the tower) we struggled a bit getting the hob to heat but that could have been us rather than the cooker. The living room has a wonderful log burner and comfortable sofa for drinking in the views across the bay, we spent hours sat on the balcony looking out and each morning enjoyed a coffee doing the same.

We slept in the downstairs room and found the mattress a little tired but did not stop us from having a great night sleep.

Lots of great places to explore - castles, lighthouses and lovely coves.

Would we return - in a heartbeat, we didn't want to leave.

If you remind us then we will definitely get a better mattres before you come back. But we are still paying off the cost of totally rebuilding Sea Shore Cottage after a flood made the original annexe uninhabitable.

The good thing about the flood was that it revealed the need to start again from the foundations and totally rebuild the annexe up to modern standards.

Incidentally my wife prefers staying in Sea Shore whereas I prefer Sea Otter.

Having after many years of failures I had given up trying to loose weight until I read the book called Fast Diet (2 days a week fasting and 5 days eating absolutely anything I felt like) and amazed myself by managing to get my weight down to a far healthier level.

“Very Pleasant Cottage”

The weather was cold, windy and rainy; the house was warm, clean and dry. Loved our stay just wish the weather could have been nicer - still, we came prepared. Didn't see any sea otters, dauphins, orcas or whales however there was a seal playing outside the house for about 6 hours. The house is comfortable (like the proverbial old slippers) with excellent views out to sea and along the coast; the tv worked fine as did the wifi. My only negative is that the property is in need of updating and I suggest you start with the beds (they were comfortable enough but creaky). I would stay there again without hesitation and strongly recommend it to everyone.

Thanks for your feedback. We totally agree that some updating is needed but sadly all our funds for the present were spend totally rebuilding Sea Shore Cottage after a massive flood destroyed the very poor quality low roofed small windowed annexe ito the magnificent place it now is.

Sorry about the weather. Hopefully you will be back again with better weather and with Sea Otter Cottage brought up to the quality of Sea Shore Cottage

Recently returned from a short break here. We had a great time, the cottage has everything that you could possibly need and the location is incredible. Opening the curtains to see the sea every morning was a definite treat. I expect we'll be back again!

“Great location”

Great location, right on the edge, short walk to the beach, watched some of the UK surfing competition down there, found a baby seal sitting on the seaweed at the harbour . you can hear the water splashing up when the tide is in.
Great place to escape and relax, big tescos just up the road is very handy.
Sadly the cottage is a bit dated and needs some work doing to it. No extractor in the bathroom and the window doesn't open, the stairs are very steep and no outside lights, but if you ignore these little things it is a great location with some great views of Ackergill tower.

Sadly until very recently all our funding has had to be focused on the cost of totally rebuilding Sea Shoe Cottage right up from the foundations up (costing 3X more and taking 3X longer than estimated) but that long nightmare of debts has at last been overcome and our builder is due to come in next week to install a new bathroom window in Sea Otter. Thanks for reminding us that it needs an extractor fan at the same time. Sorry we can't do anything about the steep stairs but at least the main bedroom is downstairs, and I think you will agree that the view from the upstairs bedroom windows is well worth the steep climb
