Uninspired publicity might lead you to miss this gem. By far the most interesting museum in the whole area it is full of interesting delights. Together with the Walligoe Steps it's one of the places in Caithness that are far too easy to miss. Don't!!

Soooo much stuff you wouldn't believe unless you visited! From the outside it looks like a cottage. On the inside it goes on halfway up the street! Doris took us through to the far end of the building, pointing out various things of interest on the way. The idea is she gets you to the far end and you make your way back through the various rooms and floors on your own. Information cards are beside each main display.
From the sublime to the ridiculous - from a child's tiny bootees to an illuminated top from a lighthouse over two floors and look down upon three boats downstairs! Unbelievable and so glad I didn't miss it. You have to go!

A cavernous museum with all sorts inside showing the history if wick - including a full size light house light! Slightly bizarre but full of interesting bits and shown around by Doris who clearly loves the place.
Also has some lovely split level gardens which would be lovely in the summer time. Recommended for the price.

There was so much here I could have spent 2 hours or more and even loos!! I wandered amongst a splendid maze of rooms and exhibitions about every possible aspect of life in Wick . It was quite fascinating and opened at 10 am !! More or less had it to myself although a coach arrived just as I was leaving - had a train to catch . Excellent value and very nice ladies on duty.

You'd best set aside at least 2 hours if you want to absorb all the information spread throughout this magnificent Heritage Centre. Even if you're not that interested in the history of Wick itself, you'll be thoroughly hooked by all the memorabilia, paintings and photographs on display....they represent the past of ANY city, in any country. Loved it !
