We were sad to leave Pentland Lodge and Thurso. Everything was great!! We slept well, had wonderful breakfasts and felt at home from home. The room was well equiped and clean and the shower was really powerful and hot.

Room Tip: All equally good

We enjoyed our stay at Pentland Lodge Guest House. The staff was friendly, warm, and welcoming, attuned to guests needs.

Our early departure for a ferry was accommodated with a breakfast served earlier than normal. The food was delicious.

The first floor family room was accessible, large and very comfortable.

A nearby beach is a great place to look for rocks and shells.

The web site has interesting and helpful suggestions about things to see, places to hike etc on the way north to Thurso. In particular we enjoyed and followed through on the scenic drives on smaller roads, a visit to the Falls of Shin and a hike in Golspie.

Make dinner reservations at the good local restaurants ahead of time. We were not able to get into our chosen place.

My husband, daughter and I had an excellent nights stay recently. Lisa was warm and friendly. The rooms were well equipped and the beds comfy. The place was peaceful and quiet. There was a very good choice for breakfast and the food was very good. We will certainly stay there again.

Just returned from an overnight stay at Pentland Lodge House and what a lucky find it was. I booked quite late and was unable to book any of their superior rooms and was allocated a standard room which turned out to be at the top of the house. As far as we were concerned it was perfect. We are very light sleepers and the room was so quiet - there was only one other room on the opposite side of the landing so we were totally isolated from any sort of noise.
From the initial enquiry to check out nothing was too much trouble. We needed an early arrival and, as it turned out, a late check out but were never made to feel that it was a problem - quite the opposite. From our greeting on arrival to our departure all we saw were smiles.

The house is a short distance up a side road so traffic was limited but it was still only a 2 minute walk across to the beach. The coastline is amazing with clear views to the Orkney Islands, sight of the ferries crossing, lots of small fishing boats bobbing around, seals popping their heads out of the water and of course those hardy surfers out to catch a wave. The walk along the coastal path is bracing but well worth the effort. Our room may not have been huge but we did have an unexpected "small" view of the sea and it was just fine. It was bright and clean with a king size bed, a small but well appointed shower room, plenty of towels, nice bedding, a well stocked tea tray, plenty of bathroom accessories as well a little extras - including locally made biscuits!

The room had an information folder which covered just about anything that a guest could possibly want to know complete with instructions for walks, tour information, ferry times, eateries etc. Breakfast times were clearly stated and a menu was included. Having read a previous guest's review I just had to try the poached eggs and, yes, they were not to be missed. In fact, the whole breakfast was excellent and the company was interesting (a couple from England who were touring Scoland in a sports car and a Canadian couple who told us about the "moose lottery" - you never know what you are going to find out from an encounter at breakfast!).

I would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants a casual, friendly place to stay. Thanks Lisa for being so helpful.

I stayed here recently with my husband and daughter before catching the morning ferry. I cannot fault the hotel on anything. The room was spotless - as was the whole hotel.
Breakfast was lovely too :) Lisa is very welcoming and helpful.

Just visited the Pentland Lodge Guest House for a flying one night stay with a friend. Lisa welcomes you with a warm smile and her dog makes sure you feel at home!

We stayed in the 'Cairnmore Room' which I think is one of the more spacious rooms. Nicely decorated, impeccably clean and a perfect en suite shower room - it was a treat. Only complaint was the bed was too comfortable - didn't want to get up in the morning! Sadly we only stayed for one night!

Breakfast in the morning was a delicious range of locally sourced fare, prepared to order between 7 and half 9. Couldn't fault it.

Wish Thurso was a little closer to home so we could stay again. Look forward to a return visit.

Our party stayed for 2 nights in Scaraben & Morven. Large rooms, very nicely appointed including big comfy beds, nice clean linens and ensuites, modern decor. Great choice for breakfast, something for everyone, portions huge - Lisa makes the best poached eggs! Lisa helped us with where to eat in Thurso, called the ferry for info and was more than happy to help us with anything we needed. The perfect hostess. Thanks Lisa, we will recommend you to anyone travelling through Thurso and when we come back to explore more of the Orkney Islands we will stay with you. A side note, the extra Caithness shortbread you gave us was much appreciated - the best. Thanks again Lisa, Jenny, Kei and Jacqui.

Room Tip: Choose Scaraben and Morven if you are booking 2 rooms, you will have the privacy of having the top f...
