This café is in the middle of a caravan park, but it is open to everyone and not just those staying at the caravan site. It overlooks the sea and there is free parking on site.

It was not clear which door to go in and some more signage would be beneficial (don't think of trying to find a blue door - there wasn't one). The café itself has a cheap diner feel about it and could do with a complete overhaul.

The young member of staff that served us was obviously unhappy in her job and said nothing as she gave us a crumpled laminated menu with a dirty piece of paper with the specials stapled to it.

Although it took over half an hour to get the food we ordered (I usually don't mind waiting as it shows it is made fresh) when the food arrived it was very nice. However taking everything else into account I felt that it was overpriced. Such a shame really as this place could be so much more!

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent visit to The Blue Door Coffee Shop & Diner.
I apologize you received such an unenthusiastic greeting upon your arrival at our place; we want customers to feel comfortable and relaxed the minute they walk in and we will strive for improvement in this regard.
I also apologize for the state of the menu—being busy does have a downside as it takes its toll on our menus. We are in the process of expanding our menu and working with our designer with the goal of rolling out the new ones by the end of August.
As to your wait; you’re right, our food is made to order and we are limited by the size of our griddle. We believe you can’t rush quality and we appreciate your willingness to wait in this regard.
We’re glad you enjoyed your meal. Our goal is to serve fresh, great tasting burgers (and fish n’ chips, paninis, etc. of course!). We could charge less, but then we couldn’t source our ingredients locally. To be able to do so means a lot to us. Our most expensive burger is our Breakfast Burger, which at £8.50 (with French fries. Without, £7.00) is competitive locally.
Finally, yes, we do have a blue door! When we took over the place, the first door we painted was the swinging door from front of house to the kitchen. We painted it blue, hence our name. I also appreciated your comment regarding our ‘diner feel,’ as I worried people would expect a 1950’s American Diner style when what we were going for was a family kitchen-diner atmosphere. I must admit, though, we were going for a more ‘shabby chic’ feel as opposed to a ‘cheap’ one. We wanted a comfortable, casual place like the ‘burger joints’ back home in Texas.
.Again, thank you for your comments. We appreciate our customers have a choice when comes to dining out, and we hope you’ll choose us again sometime soon!

Very family friendly cafe/diner. Great prices and they cater well for my sons food allergy. Relaxed and friendly environment. Love trying a diff flavour latte every time i go. stunning views. My only wish is that it wss open more during the week so more folk could rave about it. A real hidden gem and a fave place of my toddler!

When we were in Thurso last summer, staying at the wonderful Thurso Bay Holidays, the Blue Door was a 3 minute, if that, walk. The problem is they were never open when we wanted to go. They had free wifi, and we would have gone to eat a snack, have coffee/tea, etc. just to use the wifi, but every time we went by, they were closed or closing. You have to be open to get business. After 3 or 4 tries, we gave up and started going to town to use the free wifi at the museum.

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to write us a review.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by our weekend opening times. It frustrates us that at this point in our business development we are unable to open every day—we would have loved to have met y’all and asked your feedback on our burgers, fish ‘n chips, milkshakes, and home-baked goodies!
We hope you’re planning a return visit soon to Thurso, and if so, that you’ll make plans to stop by—we’ll have a free 'cup of joe' ready and the wifi fired up!

The Blue Door is a little piece of America in Scotland. The Skinny Cheeseburger is to die for. Kimberly is constantly refining her menu and adding the most delicious main courses and desserts. Every time we visit there is a new type of cupcake to try.
