We have just spent 2 very relaxing nights in the Cairnmore room, which is very comfortable and spacious and has an enormous bathroom with modern fittings. The hotel is full of character and in a very peaceful location - great for visiting the nearby Castle of Mey.

The food, both at breakfast and dinner, is superb - lots of local ingredients, well cooked and full of flavour. We can particularly recommend the local beef and lobster and my porridge was excellent.

We were looked after wonderfully by the delightful Anne Mackenzie and her superb staff. Cannot recommend Forss House enough - it's fantastic value for money. We shall certainly be back when we return to Caithness.

Perfect place to explore the Highlands. Situated beside a meandering stream alive with jumping salmon, the well-kept grounds are a peaceful country haven. Bathrooms are new, modern and spacious. The meals were well presented, delicious, and authentic to the region. A path from the lodge to the ocean is maintained so that guests can stroll down to the ruins of an old chuch on the seashore. Walking back on a road results in a pleasant 2 mile stroll. The bar is well stocked with the best highland whiskeys. Anne, the manager, is a delightful resource for everything. Thank you Anne for such a wonderful stay. Lane Robson Calgary Canada

Forss House is a welcome retreat in this somewhat isolated area of Scotland. We had an extremely warm welcome to our cozy rooms. Our rooms were located in one of the buildings in the garden, and I would recommend that location. In particular, the bathrooms were very nice, and clearly had just been recently redone. They were clean and warm and had great lighting...and I am super-picky about hotel bathrooms. My only small niggle would be that I wish the beds had duvets and more substantial pillows. Didn't love the sheet and blanket set-up, as the blanket did look well-worn. But we slept well in our quiet room. Breakfast was also good, although service could have been a bit quicker. However, these are small matters, and the overall experience at Forss House is a very good one, and you should stay without hesitation.

My daughter and I recently visited family in Thurso - we found Forss Hotel on Trip Advisor and were delighted with our stay. Ann and her staff welcomed us into the lovely old home which has been converted into a comfortable, traditional hotel tucked into beautiful countryside and salmon river. The Caithness area of Scotland is very beautiful and harkens back to a different time - the Forss experience complemented this in many ways. We would highly recommend this gem in the north!

First time visit, in almost tropical weather! Hard to believe it was the north of Scotland.
An excellent hotel, with a very large comfortable room and bathroom with good service and food. Dinner and breakfast was extremely good, apart from my wife's porridge which was what I imagined Oliver Twist's gruel must taste like. Maybe it was an off day?
Incidentally, the worst Black Forest Gateax I have ever eaten was actually in the Black Forest itself, and now the Worst Porridge Award goes to Forrs House Hotel! Spooky, eh?
However it would be wrong to dwell on this minor detail as my cooked breakfast was superb and it is an excellent hotel, which I would strongly recommend to anyone.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. Sorry about the porridge - I think chef got the ratio of the oats and water/milk confused that morning! Glad the rest of breakfast was enjoyed.
Kind regards

Anne
