May be a bit harsh rating this hotel average, as the owners have obviously put a lot of investment into what was a very low starting point. The room was good clean and well equipped, appointed to a nice standard. The staff were especially helpfull and v friendly a credit to the hotel. Our evening meal was very nice, the venison especially so, the lounge room was lovely.
If we had left then I would have rated much higher.
The bed was v uncomfortable sleep quality not good. Then the next morning the breakfast was poor. My wife ordered poached eggs which came as 2 rubber balls covered in pepper, a bit of toast under it would have made it look better. My full breakfast was a better but the sliced suare sausage was a mistake v greasy.
Hopefully the hotel will take my coments constructively as it could be a super place with minor changes, like new matresses.

Our stay at Melvich Hotel was fabulous. Great food and excellent service. Nothing was too much bother. The room was huge and the decor fresh and modern. The views fom the restaurant were very impressive too. It is a fair drive out west of Thurso, but it is worth it to get out to the clean fresh air and sea views

The room was just perfect - places to put things, very smart and clean, great shower, all you need really. Beautiful residents lounge with old visitors books from the 1930's. Charming staff, prompt service. The best bit was the food - the best food I have eaten in the UK, better even than Michelin starred restaurants I have eaten at. Food all locally sourced or grown in the hotel polytunnel which is a great idea. Prices very reasonable too. Hotel just above the bay so fantastic views and beach within walking distance. Short drive to Thurso if you need to, but small general store about 30 seconds walk from the hotel. Very convenient! Great, great place.

Overlooking the most picturesque bay with white sands and the cleanest blue water imaginable this hotel manages to live up to its bueatiful location by offering good sized ,clean and comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and helpful and the evening meal was delicious ,I am happy to report that my "rare" steak was exactly as requested and not medium-rare as I am normally served..........portion size was good and the menu options should suit everyone .
A good scottish breakfast set us up for the homeward journey.
Even the weather managed to put on a good show for us !

We booked into Melvich for two nights. I must admit I was wary, having spent a few nights in dodgy B&Bs in remote Scottish locales, but the Melvich surpassed all of my expectations.

The room was spacious, clean, warm and well presented. It was well equipped with the usual things like a kettle, hairdryer and a LCD television. Plus, we had a lovely view out over the Pentland Firth.

The breakfast was good, but limited if you don't eat meat. A veggie Scottish breakfast would be a welcome addition to the menu. The hotel also has a nice guest lounge with free WiFi.

If we ever venture that far north again, I would be happy to stay at the Melvich.

Having sampled the delights of the Melvich Hotel during a two night break this July, it is definitely a place that we would love to return to. The Hotel sits on the north coast with breathtaking views over to Orkney and over the white sands of Melvich Bay, popular with surfers. The warm hospitality extended by the hosts, Jo and Rob, makes one feel most welcome and they endeavour to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Their knowledge of the local area was a fantastic guide to getting the most from our stay! The room we had was spotless, and the hotel has recently been modernised. The views from the dining room are simply spectacular! We ate both nights in the restaurant, where Rob uses the best of local produce to create fantastic dishes. This hotel was a fantastic find, make sure you take advantage of all it has to offer!

Excellent hotel that had everything that I look for whenever I am travelling.
.
The rooms are very well presented and are pristine. The whole hotel looked as if it had just been decorated, and is fresh and clean. We had a great sea view from our room, and we could see the lovely beach which is only five minutes walk away.

The staff are very friendly and are happy to assist with any requests you may have, and they make you feel very welcome.

The food was excellent, all ingredients are Scottish and sourced locally so everything was fresh and very tasty. I can highly recommend the rib eye steak - it was superb.

All in all, an excellent hotel that I hope I can revisit in the near future.
