so well presented and lovingly shared, whether you are a Royal junckie, and admirer of great architecture or love gardens, a must if you are in the vicinity

Small castle (fortified house really) that was the only private residence of the Queen Mother. (Who apparently bought it for just £100!)You take a tour of the castle with a guide who if they are anything like our guide was very knowledgeable bringing the place and the people to life. Its like a small peek into how the Royal family spend time relaxing (Prince Charles was apparently staying here the week before we were there) Excellent place and well worth a visit as its not far from the Orkney ferry and John o Groats. Nice little gift shop too.

A really interesting insight to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's home in Scotland. A lovely location.
If you want to spoil yourself stay at the Granery Lodge B&B in the castle grounds.

Grounds and castle were lovely with an excellent gift / coffee shop. Our tour guide John was brilliant providing many amusing stories about the Queen Mother and her time staying in the castle. I've toured many other Royal sites but as this is not officially a Royal residence this tour offered more insight than you would maybe find elsewhere. Unfortunately you are unable to take photos within the castle but taking pictures outside is not a problem. Well worth a visit.
