“Ideal stop for Glen Affric and Strathfarrar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

A group of 6 munro baggers in search of a good place to stay to attack the Munros of Glen Affric and Strathfarrar found this lovely place an ideal stop. The rooms are clean comfortable and spacious but even more importantly it serves good beer and the food ranges from good to excellent especially the first class breakfasts. The staff are cheerful and friendly and in an area with no mobile reception were particularly accommodating at passing on messages (just like in the old days...). Oh and the scenery needs no selling it is simply great.

My wife and I stayed in the Tomich Hotel earlier in the month for 3 days as part of a group running holiday. Tomich is a fabulous base with beautiful countryside all around which can be enjoyed by car but to best effect by those able and prepared to walk, cycle or even run. Glen Affric is one of the most beautiful and under visited parts of Scotland.

Our room was luxurious - nice big comfortable bed, good bathroom, big fluffy towels, lots of space and a couple of comfy seats. It is -6 degrees centigrade (20-25 F) one morning and I am pleased to say the room was still cosy. Wifi is free though given the remoteness don't expect fast download speeds.

As well as the nice room the hotel achieves top marks for me through the quality of the food - we had a restricted range from the normal menu and as with a previous visit it was really good quality and still plenty choice. All of the food is well presented and portion sizes just right.

The owner Bernard likes his wine so the list from my point of view is good - a choice from not much over £10 through to a few good bottles such as a decent Puligny-Montrachet at £72. There is no pressure to buy the expensive stuff but if you do Bernard will share some of his passion. He also enjoys malt whisky so there is a good selection of that too covering all of the main regions and styles including my personal favourite Springbank.

There is a large sitting room with a log fire to relax in after dinner - perfect for our group but equally good if you are travelling as a couple.

It was a pleasure to be back in the Tomich and I look forward to another visit next year.

I was here fro two nigts with my wife and another couple. The welcome was warm and friendly without being over powering, the beer was good, the food was excellent and the rooms looked newly refurbished. I honestly could not find faukt here other than one little stray cobweb. The food, included in our package, was first rate and cooked to perfection with a ggos variety to suit most tastes including a vegetarian option. The wine was good and again reasonablely priced with teh wirter going to some trouble off his own initiative to check what was actually available before we tried to order something they didnt have. The scenery is amazing and if in the area a short drive and an even shorter walk to teh falls of plodda is a must. cannot reccomend this place enough , I have every intention of returning sometime fairly soon.

Room Tip: There is a swimming pool locally which you are welcome to use, its small nd I still dont where it is...

Can't say enough about this place. Great food, gorgeous scenery, nice room, and wonderful, friendly staff! I recommend it to anyone staying in the central highlands, especially before and/or after a camping or hunting trip in the nearby countryside. I'm sorry I was only there for one night -- thanks!

We spent a night at Tomich hotel. It is located in a very beatiful natural environment. The welcome was friendly and the room was very clean. The hotel has restaurant and bar. We had dinner at the bar and the food was good. The breakfast was also OK. This is the place to go to relax and enjoy its surroundings. I recommend it and I would go there again.

A lovely Victorian hotel set in a beautiful location and well placed for walking in Glen Affric or Glen Cannich. We found the staff very welcoming and friendly during our short stay. Our room was scrupulously clean and very comfortable and we enjoyed a great dinner on the Friday night too.

Spent a night here for a quiet weekend break with my other-half and I can't complain. We were welcomed by Bernard, the owner, who was extremely pleasant and personable. The rooms were large, comfortable, clean and well presented and the service was friendly and efficient. The hotel itself is situated perfectly if you want to get away from it all, but still has easy access to nearby Inverness.
The evening meal and breakfast were both good, nothing flash - but that's not what we were after.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to couples looking for a quiet retreat.
