Owner description: The Spey Valley Championship Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course that meanders through ancient Caledonian pine forests and along the banks of the sparkling River Spey. Some of our holes are famous for their outstanding natural beauty; our 5th hole boasts the longest hole in Scotland (at 635 yards) and our 6th spans a lake which has been adopted as a nesting site by a bird colony. When you reach the 12th at the start of the home stretch, the Spey Valley opens up before you like a film set, whilst the 16th presents a real challenge for even the most experienced golfer. You'll need a long, accurate tee shot to carry the water hazard and the flowering purple heather is standing by to punish a poor shot. However, the most spectacular of all has to be the 18th; with its two bunkers designed to mirror the undulating corries of the mountains beyond, this is our raison d'être.

Played on a extremely hot day in July. Current clubhouse is a 1/2 mile walk to first tee and walk from 1st green to second tee is another half mile, I love walking and my home course is 7000 yards so this is not a complaint I make ever but these two walks were bordering on crazy. The new clubhouse is about to open so this will take away the walk to the first tee which will help matters. The course itself has some stunning views and some good holes. Fairways were running very quickly due to the hot weather we have had and the course was playing very links like. Greens were in decent condition. The round was somewhat ruined by the pace of play and we ended up not playing the 16th/17th as we were well over 4 hours to play the first 15.

That aside the course was a good challenge without having a stand out hole and could be enjoyed by golfers of any standard as no large carries and no major obstacles if you keep it straight.

As one of the Elgin lads who joined up with Skiboy on his round yesterday totally agree with his report. First time around the course courtesy of Bunkered vouchers from my son who played along with us and the whole experience was was quite superb. Weather and course were excellent - pleased we took a buggy in that heat. Played Elgin Golf Course yesterday just to continue great conditions for golf. Will certainly be back !

Today I again had a very enjoyable round of golf at Spey Valley golf course. There were three of us playing today who appreciated the beauty and challenge of the course which must be one of the best in Scotland. The two lads I went round with were from Elgin which itself has plenty nice courses on its doorstep and they were most impressed with SVGC as this was their first time here.
It was good to reconnect with Joe and some of the other guys down there who are looking forward to the clubhouse being completed next month.
A mention has to go out to the greenkeepers as they were in very good condition.
Work and weather permitting I would hope to come up again for another round this year.

Played this with a free voucher but would happily pay asking price what a place! Staff were tremendously helpful. Beautiful sights but I would recommend using a buggy. And bring plenty of balls.

Course is very long and has some spectacular holes with great landscaping and majestic scenery, however the greens and fairways seem to be in a pretty poor state (the greens were especially poor as they had been hollow tined and were very bumpy and bare in places). While this is possibly a knock-on effect of the poor winter/spring we have had this year, our party played Kingussie golf course the next day and despite being only 10 miles away the course was in very good condition and was a pleasure to play. Fortunately we had got on at Spey Valley under a voucher scheme and hadn't paid full price or we would have probably complained!

I'd definitely like another chance to play here, but it would need to be at a time when it was in better condition, as we found that even in May we were getting such poor lies we were having to prefer them.
